Just bought "Roxio RecordNow 10 Music Lab Premier"

During setup received the following message:

Remove Conflicting Programs
"The following programs on your computer may need to be uninstalled in order for Roxio RecordNow 10 Music Lab Premier to function correctly."

"[checkbox] Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1   Removal of the selected item is required for the following products: (but this was blank...)"

I chose "Next" at this point and the install completed without errors.

Once installed, RecordNow 10 hangs when I ask it to rip a music CD, the main task I bought it to do.  After the hang the system will not respond to CTRL-ALT-DEL.  Only power cycling it (cold boot) brings it back.

Easy DVD Creator 7, since removed, had no problems.  iTunes still installed has no problems.

I do understand what .NET Framework is (I'm a software product manager elsewhere)

I see Microsoft KB867460 .Net 1.1 Hotfix is installed (perhaps by the RecordNow 10 setup?)

Trying to remove .NET 1.1 directly from Add/Remove Programs (after making a backup just in case) gives warning that .NET 2.0 might not function correctly if 1.1 is removed.  At this point I quit and went to this forum.

Computer is a Dell D-400.  OS is Windows XP - SP2.  Burner is external USB 2.0, Sony DRX-830U Dual Layer drive, which shows up in Device Manager as a DRU-830A.  BIOS, system board drivers and video chip drivers have all been updated to current versions as part of this exercise.

What to do?  Is Easy Media Creator 10 more stabile?  Should I ask for my money back on RecordNow and get EZMC 10 instead?

The .NET Framework can be used by programmers when they write software for Windows.  Some programs are version specific, and won't work if version 1.1 of the .NET Framework is uninstalled.  Does anyone know why Roxio requires removal of the .NET Framework to install it's software, and whether reinstalling this version of the .NET Framework after the Roxio install will cause any conflicts?
