I bought the EMC 10 package from Staples... I was looking forward to the new software after reading all the hype about it.
But to my disappointment it was very erratic and very very slow, to the point where I stopped even trying to use it.
Yesterday I decided to go online and see if this was happening to others.
I found the huge update available for EMC 10,  d/loaded and installed it. Over all it took a while, but was it ever worth it.
I have an newer hi-end HP computer, pent.4 duo processors, 2.8gh. 4gb ram and an N/Vidia 7300 Vid/Card. also a TV Card.
I am running Vista Home Premium Media Centre with no problems at all, then I install EMC 10 and it turns out crappy.
Thankfully the update fixed whatever the problem was, and it appears to be running much better.
Has anyone else ran into this problem. I'd be interested to hear...

PS-I lost my Key number somehow, and eventually came across ROX-ANN. she pointed me in the right direction. Cool thing.

The Vista update for EMC 10 has been out for several months.  Apparently Staples didn't change their stock.  Thanks for sharing that.

For my information, did the built in Software Updater ever give you a notification that updates were available?

If you are a new user, please visit the Tips and Tricks area of both EMC 9 and EMC 10.  There are a lot of good threads posted by users so they address some specific and frequently asked questions.   If you are doing any video work, you might want to read "One way of doing it."  There are also some informative videos on many aspects of using the program.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Question: What do you mean by "...Vista update for EMC 10...."? The only update link I can find is http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/emc10/software_updates.html which deals with only the NTLDR problem (an XP issue only) and does not add anything else according to the notes on the page, it just corrects the potential NTLDR problem in XP installations. Is there another update somewhere? I received the notification one time (edit: when I first installed EMC 10) but declined the update due to installing on Vista, thus not affected by the NTLDR issue, did not see any need to waste the time downloading it. I assumed that if there was another update, I would be prompted to install it. If there is a Vista update somewhere I would like to install it, like to keep everything up to date. Thanks.

You installed the only update that is available.

I think you have me mixed up with the OP. sknis had replied to the OP about the "...Vista update...."

I kind of "pirated" this thread to ask my question about there being another update somewhere.

Re-reading my post, it was not clear what I meant about the updater prompt. I thought there might be another update that came through the updater, but was not posted anywhere. I thought by declining the initial update offer, that somehow I might have missed being prompted about later updates. I have recently installed Vista Ultimate 64 on PC1 listed below but still dual booting until satisified 64 is stable. I am moving things from Vista Ultimate 32 installation to the Vista Ultimate 64 installation as I gain more confidence in 64. I thought if I had screwed up the updater module that I would expediate moving EMC 10 to the 64 installation so I could get the update. BTW: do not believe all those rants from people about 64 that haven't actually used it (they are just repeating what they have heard, not what they have actually experienced), it is rock solid so far and have had no problems with drivers, etc. If I could I would convert PC2 to 64 bits also.

Thanks for verifying that there is not another update that I have missed, as I indicated I am somewhat fanatical about keeping things updated(:>)

I didn't say it was a Vista download. When I went to the Roxio website I found this huge update for EMC 10, so downloaded it.
It looked like it replaced pretty well the whole program, and was in the 750mb size.
I had no idea it was for XP either, but it doesn't look like it has done any harm to my Vista.
Anyways, I'm still disappointed with EMC 10, and if I had my "DRUTHERS", you know what I'd do.
To answer your question of the built in updater, it said "no updates".
cheers... Dave C

Steve was thinking about the EMC 9 update.  That one is for Vista.  And, we aren't mind readers, so have no idea why you are disappointed or what your "druthers" are.
