I am trying to create a slideshow. Every time I edit a photo, add text, add motion, etc, the sytem locks up. I run XP with SP2

Please post your system specs.
Might be a problem with your video card. Check to see if you have the latest driver. Also go to Tools/Options and see if your rendering is set to hardware.
