•name which program which gives you the problem - Creator Classic, Drag2Disc, DVD Builder, etc.
[Sonic Record Now 7.3]
•give your operating system (Win98SE, WinXP SP1, Linux, etc.)
[Win XP]
•clarify which Roxio version number - the version number can be found by going to the program in question, clicking on "help" at the top, and then "about".
[Version 7.3]
•tell us your drive identifier - to get the ID string, right-click on the "my computer" icon, go to "properties" at the bottom of the menu, the hardware tab, then Device Manager, then click on the + alongside the CDROM icon.
[Phillips DVD +RW DVD 8801]
•what recent changes/updates/upgrades you have made to software or hardware.
[a new disc drive was installed]
•if you have an error message, we would need the precise text, error numbers, and such, in what situation it occurred, etc. It would help to take a picture with a digital camera or use the (ALT) print screen key and Paste the so created snapshot into, say, MSPAINT.exe so you have available the exact numbers and words when you type your message to us. Or write them out with pen and paper, so you can type them in exactly.
I have been trouble shooting this for a couple of day now - I tried this "Update to the latest PX Engine. The PX Engine improves compatibility with newer burners on the market" and the patch at this location:
http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/recordnow...ates.html"
Yesterday, I deleted Sonic and re-installed it with the disc that came with my computer. I am able to burn a data disc, and copy files to formatted blank dvds - everything but burn music files to blank cds. I even ripped some cds and tried to burn files that were not already on my computer. Also - I tried Dell help - the person there downloaded some other cd burner - it worked - but I don't want that. And I would like to know why it did and Sonic won't. I have been using Sonic for three years now - with no problems.
Here is the error code I keep getting:
Sense: 03 ASC: 0C ASCQ: 00 (Command 2A)
Px.dll: 3.6.36.500
pxafs.dll: 3.6.36.500
pxdrv.dll: 1.2.5.0
pxmas.dll: 3.6.36.500
pxsfs.dll: 3.6.36.500
PxWave.dll: 3.6.36.500
PXWMA.dll: 1.0.0.3
Thank you for the help.

You have a Dell oem version of Roxio, all support for OEM's comes from the provider of the software(Dell).
Sense errors are "normally" caused by the burner or type of media you are using, just do a Google on sense codes.

Sense: 03 ASC: 0C ASCQ: 00 is defined as "Write Error" in the MMC-3 document, though that's not very informative.
Some strange things are caused by drivers. I would try the PX Engine updater here (click). It can't hurt, and it might help.

Brendon
