When I try to burn a .gi file back to a dvd, I keep getting an error message that I need to put in a blank DVD, even though it is blank. I have upgraded my firmware (NEC DVD +-RW ND-6650A), but that doesn't seem to help. Roxio Support insists that it is a hardware problem. All other Creator 10 mneus work just fine when I burn. Anyone else have this problem?

When you make a disc image you should be able to pick what sort of image file you're going to make, .GI or .ISO - check for a drop-down box you can change.

If you can elect to make an .ISO image instead, try burning the ISO to disc to see if that makes any difference. The reason for trying ISO is because you can then try different software. Very few programs except Roxio/Sonic will touch the .GI files.

To check whether it's a hardware or a software problem, try burning the .ISO with different software. The freeware ImgBurn http://www.imgburn.com/ is a good program to use. It's small and doesn't get in the way of other software. If ImgBurn will burn your ISO to disc, then it's a software problem you're having. If ImgBurn won't recognize the blank disc, then you have a hardware problem.

Using a brand or type of disc your NEC drive doesn't like is a type of hardware problem. If your drive won't recognize a blank DVD no matter what software you're using, consider getting one or two discs of a different type/brand to try.
