Hi Everyone
I have just bought a HP computer running vista (SP1) that came preloaded with Roxio Basic Creator 9. I have burnt a number of audio cd's (CD-R) using different brand CD's and I cant get them to play on any on my home or car CD players. As a test I burnt an audio CD using my old Dell computer with the same CD's and they can play on my home CD player. I used Windows Media Player on my HP to burn an Audio CD and again it won't be recognised on my home CD player.
I am no computer expert but I have tried recording at differnt speeds and using different TAO and DAO settings without any luck. I can tell you that I have an ATAPI DVD A DH16A1L ATA Device with the latest drivers. Since I have no success using Roxio and WMP then all I assume is that I have some sort of config problem? I would really appreciate any help on this as it is driving me crazy and I am going through a lot of CD's in my attempt to resolve. Thanks Peter

A bit more detail please.

Can you tell us just which program in the Roxio suite you are using and the exact steps you are taking to make the CD?

Also, the source of the music (mp3, CD or whatever)

Since you get the same result with WMP that you do with Roxio I don't think it's a software problem.I'd start looking at the drive as the source of the problem.
You might think about taking the drive out of the Dell and putting it in the HP and seeing what happens.
In WMP you can pretty much only change the destination for the cache and the write speed.With only those 2 options and not being able to play a disc made using WMP I'd definitely look at the burner as the problem.

Most here run Roxio EMC Retail versions, not cut down OEM's HP, Dell and others buy from Roxio/Sonic. They are different, some crippled to get you to buy the Retail version.

Our Retail version doesn't give you any "TAO and DAO settings" Does your version have a disc info or disc and device utility under tools? If so look at the burned disc, for Audio CD closed/finalized. If your version doesn't have the utility, download the free info tool #9 in my signature. Just unzip to a new folder you made on your desk top and run the .exe from there. Click it and when it opens click the Disc tab. Any problems click my user name send message.

I thought of that cd but as far as I know neither Music Disc Creator nor WMP allows you to make an unfinalized Audio CD.
If it is unfinalized that would surely explain why it won't play.

I have used the Nero Info Tool and have the following info about the Dell Audio CD that works on home CD player (sorry but don't know how to insert an image so here it is in txt)

For the other same media CDs that don't work the disc info varied only on the capacity size as follows;
HP burnt Audio CD using WMP = 70:06.33 (707 MB)
HP burnt Audio CD using Roxio Audio Copy = 69:31.40 (701 MB)

I should say that HP support suggested that I also use a another burner, Burn4Free CD and DVD 3.6. I downloaded and used this which also had no success.

What Roxio suite I am using? All I know is that I am using Roxio Creator Basic V9 / Audio / Copy Disc. I used this as my simple test to copy an orginal Audio CD that is not protected.

Your using a CD-R not a CD-RW? What brand name and what X speed did you burn at?

I'd strongly recommend using a different brand of CD entirely.

This from Wikipedia:

The CDs I used on my last test are Verbatim branded, CD-R 52X. I did burn using the Roxio max setting speed and I also burnt at 16x speed.
I have run out of other brand CD's and I will purchase a few different brands to test to see if any of these work.

Contact or visit the HP website, find out which controller the drive is connected to and look for a updated chipset controller drivers available for it. Do the same for a firmware update for the Drive.

Thanks for everyones patience. I bought 3 more different branded CDs and again I can't get any of them to play on any home CD Player. I have logged the suggested issue with HP support for "updated chipset controller drivers and for firmware update for the Drive". As for Roxio Support they stated that my OEM Roxio Creator Basic v9 product is not supported by them and they suggest I go out and buy the retail version. I am ok in doing this but since I have the same issue with burning an Audio CD with Windows Media Player it doesn't make sense that it is a software issue but rather as cdanteek states more likely it is a drive issue.
