I was receiving the same error but have finally solved the problem by upgrading my XP Pro to SP2.  I uninstalled EMC8, upgraded to SP2, reinstalled EMC8 and no longer receive the error.  I can open the main media creator "home" application.  Let me know if this helps.  I did a few other steps along the way but I don't believe they were accomplices.

I have XP Home SP2. I downloaded the program and the first time the main home applicatios was OK, but not the second time and after.
Thanks.
Nacho.

I'm not sure. HAve you tried to type that error message into Roxanne Support on the Roxio Support site. It may give you idead of what's wrong.

I'm running into the same issue.  I have XP Pro with SP2.  I was able to register the product through the desktop icon but from then on I get a blank message box then another message box identifying the 80004005 Invalid Pointer error.  I have not been able to find anything on Roxio's support website.  I have found two forum entries about SP 2 not being installed.  So I reinstalled SP 2 and did a reinstall to Roxio with the same results.  Oddly enough, all of the other programs work.  I just can't get into the Home (Roxio_Central.exe).
