I purchased a new copy of EMC 9 Deluxe Suite from an eBay seller. The program disk is scratched and has a bubble in the substrate material - consequently the setup.exe file remains on screen indefinitely while the drive grinds away at trying to read the file(s).

Drag and drop copy to the hard drive, as recommended elsewhere, terminates with a failure. Using XCOPY in a dos shell, with options to copy all directories AND ignore failures, shows multiple files unreadable from the source disk - one file that failed to read multiple times, is RSL.DLL (?) ...

So I thought I'd download the 9.1 update and just install from there with my 9.05 serial numbers, but the description says 9.0 must already be installed from my original CD.

I was going to use this to produce a 500 image slide show for the senior class at our high school, so my need is urgent.

Is EMC9 Deluxe available anywhere as a complete archive that I can download and install from, or as an ISO image so I can burn a new CD?

Or, is the EMC9 trial registerable with my EMC 9.05 DLX SUITE CD KEY?

I won't post my serial number here (EMC9DLX and SOUNDSOAP SE2.X) but can provide some information on my EMC9DLX disk to confirm my ownership / possession of it. The p/n on my EMC9DLX disk is 150226-00, per the label in the CD case. The number stamped in the CD substrate on the silver side, encircling the hub, is 171622-00 MADE IN THE USA 160367-00 ModusLink 02 ifpiLL27. The CONTENT disk appears to be OK, but for confirmation purposes, it is marked on the silver around the spindle: 171629-00 MADE IN THE USA 160368-00 ModusLink 01.

Thanks in advance!

You need to contact Customer Service…

The disc you bought is a lesser version of the EMC 9 Suite and both have not been offered since last September. I think you are going to be on your own with this one unless you can get the Ebay seller to replace it.

But you won't know until you try Customer Service.

This is a users forum, and we're not Roxio/Sonic employees. You bought off eBay, you need to be looking to the seller and/or eBay for restitution. As you noted, EMC 9 is no longer for sale by Roxio/Sonic, the current version is 10. You're welcome to try and contact Roxio/Sonic directly, but I can't see them having too much sympathy. I don't believe the Trial version can be "registered". My recollection is that when one decided to purchase the full package, it was a new download, and you needed to uninstall the trial version first.

I'd suggest you start by contacting your ebay seller first. Good luck!

Version 9 still seems available for sale on the Roxio site, click here.

The V9 Trial had extra downloads after it was bought according to Ivan@Rox, content plus other things missing from the Trial.

Is the disc a pressed disc or a burned disc? If burned I would contact Roxio, it's illegal to do that and they should be interested in shutting him down.

Contact the seller like what was suggested and I hope you paid with Pay Pal, otherwise I'm afraid your sol...

I understand that you are not Roxio employees. I called Roxio customer support, and after following the prompts was told support was not offered via phone. Logging into the customer support at http://selfserve.roxio.com/ gave me a 'login error'. So I tried here.

Since installation / operation of the program requires a CD KEY, it doesn't seem unreasonable to me to provide a downloadable archive for new, but defective media. I specifically purchased v9 as it is more age/spec appropriate for my 5 year old XP home machine.

I see that the http://selfserve.roxio.com/ is accepting my login now. I'll repost my question, with s/n's there.

If Roxio will not provide a downloadable archive, as my need is urgent, I'll ship it back to the seller for exchange.

Thanks.

Jack

Is the disc a pressed disc or a burned disc?

It's pressed. Here's the ebay link, if your interested.

Disks are silver with pro silkscreened labels.

Your beef is with the seller. He/she is the one who sold you (knowingly, I would bet) a defective disk. Contact that seller.

You're exactly right about Roxio/Sonic providing a download or even a new disc for you, if you had bought it from them. In fact, had you bought it directly from Soxio, you would have had that guarantee. However, you bought if from "Joe eBay" and I suspect he isn't an authorized reseller. He may even still have it installed on his machine, unless the disc was defective when he got it. So, "yes" to your argument, but "no" in this case.

Well, I'm rather shocked by your replies.

For the record, the seller has multiple new, unused / never registered copies of EMC9DLX for sale, a 100% positive feedback rating, which includes the favorable reviews of several other purchasers of EMC9DLX. But, apparently you guys would rather conjecture, cast aspersions and shift blame.

Whether the seller snapped up unsold copies of 9 when 10 came out, or bought out the stock of a store that closed, does that really matter? There's a buyer who needs help and came to the Roxio web site for help and linked here. Potentially, I would use the product and upgrade. Seems like an opportunity to make a favorable impression, but I am not impressed at all.

So I have a few questions, suggested by the apparent party line "you are SOL" type responses I've received here.

Are you suggesting that buyers need to verify with software publishers whether the reseller they purchase from is an "authorized reseller"?

If the seller is responsible for the quality / performance of the software media, are you suggesting that the seller should open and test the disk before selling it?

I'll settle up with the Seller who has offered to replace the disk. But you can be assured, it'll be a cold day in hades before I upgrade with the type of support I've seen from Roxio.

Thank you.

Jack

Dude, you bought the software from someone on e-bay. You need to contact him for your defective disk. You came here looking for advice, and you got it. This thread has run its course.
