I just bought the most recent Sony dvd burner, the DRU-820A that claims to support 16x dvd-r burning.
I posted in Apple's forum and a fellow told me he can burn a 4.2Gb files at 8x in 5-6 minutes for DVD-R.
When I burn at 8x or 16x it's slow, for 8x it lists estimate time of 6:45 minutes and for 16x it lists estimate time of 3:39 minutes but it actually takes around 29 minutes to burn a dvd-r.
I using the Verbatim 16x dvd-r certified by sony.
I'm running Mac OSX 10.4.5 on a PowerMac G4 Dual 867Mhz, 1 GB RAm, 160GB HD & 80GB HD, SONY DRU-820A 16X DVD-R, OEM COMBO drive. I own Toast 6.11 Titanium.
I get the same slow speed when burning from the finder as well.
When I burned from Toast 6 Titanium I got this message in the system log:
Mar 26 18:57:04 TARDIS kernel[0]: disk2: ioctl(_IOWR,'d',96,24) is unsupported.
