I just installed Easy Media Creator 10. I had to do a "clean Install" because when I wud start EMC 10 it wud hang with loading in the middle of the screen and an error msg that said EMC 10 had stopped responding. After the clean install EMC 10 did work. I then started to put the PC (I am using XP PRO with service pack 2) back into normal operating condition, one of the steps was to plug my Magic Jack (Voice over I.P.) back in. When I plugged the Magic Jack in it worked ok, When I started EMC10 that is when I got the condition of EMC 10 stopped responding and it did not finish loading. That is when I noticed my telephone stopped working. Now I can have my Magic Jack/telephone working or EMC 10 working, but not at the same time.
Is there any way to get the both of them working at the same time??
Any one have any idea's. I left a message with the support group.
I was hoping someone here might have some idea's

I went to their website and I couldn't find any support options at all.  Unfortunately I dont have any experience with the magic jack device at all so I don't have any recommendations.  If you simply unplug the device does that allow creator to work or do you have to remove the software for the device as well?

To get EMC to work I have to unplug Magic Jack , turn on the PC  That way Magic Jack does not load. I can then Use EMC , after I shut EMC down , I can then plug MJ in , it brings up its soft ware and runs.
I did notice today when I brought up my machine I had some sort of script error with the internet reguarding magic Jack, I told the error msg to keep running the script, I checked the telephone and it worked ok. I did not write down what the script error was, If it reoccurs I can write down what ever info I can , if U think it might be useful.

When I was running MY DVD I believe 5.3?? I did not have any of these problems.

Do U think downloading that patch update might help??

Wud like to see them both run , there shud not be a conflict.. STRANGE>>> ohmy.gif

Never heard of Magic Jack.  MyDVD 5.3 is a Sonic application, so most here haven't had experience with it.

Is Magic Jack an old program?

I had , or still do, but had an oppertunity to go to Easy Media Creator 10 , so I bought a copy on line. it had a few features I wanted to try.

My copy of MYDVD worked with the setup I have (XP PRO.) Magic Jack is a Voice Over internet Proticol, device, It allows u to use your telephone over the internet, instead of a land line. We use it for the free long distance. really cuts down on the telephone bill. This company has been in business a few years.

I am not trying to advertise for them. but for $39.00 for all the long distance I can use, is very reasonable. The adaptor is no bigger than a flip cell phone. Plugs rite into a usb port.

But my problem is trying to get the 2, EMC 10 & MJ to work at the same time. It is a pain not to be able to. I am surprised that I am the first to have this problem...

I have frequented these forums for about 4-1/2 years, and I have never heard of Magic Jack.  I guess that I wouldn't be surprised, if I was you, because it is looking like no one else in these forums has ever heard of it, either.

Try these two sites Bruce laugh.gif

One actually makes a couple of points which may be valid for the problems the OP is having:

"...They dont tell you that you can not be on your computer doing work because every time someone in your house picks up the phone or a call comes in a box pops up which you have to minimize, and yes you have to minimize it for every call going out or coming in , trust me its a pain especially when your spouse work is done primarily on the pc, try wrting a word, power point, excel, while every 10 seconds you have a box popping up on your working screen, now you can take care of this problem by simply unplugging your phone, thus eliminating anyone in the home using the phone, or receiving calls, but hey atleast you get your work done without any annoying boxes interupting you.
.."

"...They dont tell you that once you connect the magic jack to your computer, your going to be using up your systems resources, & have to update all your pc's direct x functions,..."

I will explore the 2 sites mentioned.
As for the majic Jack Pop Up when the line is picked up, I can live with that. But when Both Easy Media Creator and Magic Jack, stop only when I bring up Easy Media Creator, it wud be nice to get a fix for that.

Ok, I went out to the sites mentioned. I can understand those concers, but like I said I am NOT trying to promote Magic Jack. I only use it for the FREE (well actually $19.00 a year after 1st year) long distance, All other calls we use our cell phones.
But that is getting away from MY problem of Creator and MJ  going into NOT RESPONDING mode when I bring up Creator..

Was hoping to get some help with that. unsure.gif

I didn't post the info for any other reason than to point out that Magic Jack has problems co-existing with other apps - I'm afraid anything I have seen in a google search points to that

All is cool. I have been Chatting with the ROXIO support and they suggested I contact MJ and see if they have a fix as this is a known problem.
So I went out to their "Chat with a Live person" setup they have, and after a short conversation, I found out that they R aware that there is a "conflict" issue between MJ and EMC. And that "someone" is working on the problem and it will be a "few " months B4 the problem has a fix.

MJ does have a self help fix proceedure where U can down load all the latest fixes. But unfortinately it did not fix my problem.

So I guess I gotta live with the UNPLUG MJ when running EMC 10.

Someone said I walk around with this big black cloud over my head   wink.gif

Maybe this session here will help others when they run into this problem and the wheel will not have to be invented all over again.

smile.gif Thanks.
Mj works well for the purpose I bought it. REDUCE my long distance phone bills which were from $20 to $50 a month, In the 1st 2 months it paid for its self for a year.
If U want to use it as a primeary phone, there are many draw backs, like choosing the phone number, where I live there R no local prefix's so had to choose a number 125 miles away. Now if my next door neighboor wants to call that number it is long distance for them to call that number. I knew all that when I bought it.
I bought EMC 10 cause the price was right and it had some features I want to try.. I had a bit of a problem getting it loaded , but that probably was because MJ was hanging it up. Looking back, I understand that was my problem. Cool.

Now when this MJ-EMC conflict gets resolved this will run smoother.

Thanks again for the help ya'll

You are not alone I also have M/Jack and Roxio 10 and 9 and the new 11 they all have a conflict with roxio ,Nero and Ultra I.S.O and any burning software that has a virtual drive . like you for now unplug M/jack when you use roxio or uninstall till they come out with a fix, if I can fiqure out how to get rid of the virtual drive I will repost with how to do so . I like the magic jack as it works great exept with the burning software from roxio and the others I mentioned as I have tested them all . you can use Ultra I.S.O as you are offered the chance to disable the virtual drive during installation . and it works fine like that . So we wait for a patch I quess unless I can figuire out where the virtual drive is at in the roxio install and remove it for now until there is a patch available .have a great day, and any other advice on this matter would be greatley appreciated.  sadsimz

I have had the same problem with the Magic Jack application. Unfortunately, disconnecting Magic Jack and a clean install did not restore normal functioning to Creator 2009. The hard disk was reformatted and a new installation was needed to restore normal operation. My solution to anyone wishing to use Magic Jack is to get a netbook computer dedicated to email and the internet. The netbook will pay for itself in 12 to 18 months, depending on how much is being saved on long distance charges.

A "work-around FIX"  rolleyes.gif for the Roxio xxx "Hangs" when "MagicJack" is connected issue.  I discovered that after MagicJack starts, I can Right Click on and "eject" the "MagicJack (virtual) CD", then I'm able to start and use Roxio Creator while Magicjack continues to function at the same time.
