We just added our system specs to the 'signature' part of our profiles. If you don't want to do that, just post the specs in a message.

You can use Belarc Advisor or Everest Home or Sisoft Sandra to get your system specs. Or you can just right click on the "My Computer" icon and click "properties", and write down what it says under the "general" tab. That will at least give you your processor speed and tell you how much memory you have.
Most people on these and other forums know all their specs because they either built their system themselves, or they are just naturally geeky, Michael.

Just to add to this you can also click on the Hardware tab,go to Device Manager, look at the different categories and get most of the components from there.

Yes, can't believe I forgot to add that, the hardware tab is at the same place as the general tab I mentioned in my first post. IE; Right click "My Computer">properties>hardware tab. Thanks.

Michael, just as a side note, which you may be aware of. Everest no longer has any freeware. They stopped allowing downloads for this a few months ago. Only thing available now is trial softeware. Not sure how much info the trial software gives.

You left out one of the most important specs: what is your video card? Since its a Dell computer your may have a on-board video card which in most cases cannot handle the video requirements of EMC 8, especially the DirectX features.
Dropped frames are usually software related and depend on what hardware you are using to capture

Are you asking for a bottom line? Here is a cautious one. EMC 8 should work on your computer.
The concern I have is that you were dropping frames using a previous version. EMC 8 may not fix that and may make things worse. My suggestion is to try to find the problem in the first place using the earlier version. If you have a disc, you might try to repair or reinstall. Since it came with a burner, it is probably still around somewhere. If you have tried that and you still have dropped frames, try the following.
When you are capturing, you should have
1) shut down from the internet
2) gotten rid of any spy ware by running at least two anti-malware programs.
3) Degragged your hard drive that the program will save and work on
4) Rebooted
5) shut down all anti-spy and anti-virus ware.
6) shut down any power saving features such as your screen saver
7) gone into Windows and set your computer to best performance (Windows/Control panel/system/advanced/performance - set that to best)
6) Once you start capturing, do not use the computer for anything else until the capture is done
If the original tape has visual "noise" or are worn, it may be the fault of the tape and tape player and not one of your computer/capture. I had some 35 year old tapes like that finally had to give up. Others, I was able to cut out some real bad spots and put in a transition to cover the cut.

In my humble opinion, if you are having a problem with dropped frames EMC8 probably won't fix that problem.
1. It depends on what you mean by 'video' portion. It has a lot more editing features, but that's only and advantage if you actually use them. It does have a Timeline which will save hours of editing time. In Movie Creator, you had to drag multiple copies of the video onto the storyline and trim each one to make scenes.
2. Probably not from all the posts I've read from people who have Dell computers with capture cards. The capture wouldn't work in the new program.
3. I also started with Movie Creator until I upgraded to version 7. The capture was the same in both programs so I don't think that's going to solve your dropped frames problem. The other suggestions probably will help.
