At the risk of demonstrating my newbie status, I tell this tale of woe.

Tried to use both disk copy and creator classic to copy a DATA DVD.  The DVD was RW and I wanted to make a safer archive bu putting the data on a CD-R.  It was only around 350MB so could easily fit on a CD (have no idea wy I first put it on a DVD back a few years ago).

Tried disk copy first - but after took an image off the DVD-RW onto the HDD and asked for a writable media, it refused to accept that a CD-R was writable.   So I then tried Creator Classic, but after I added the data files from the DVD-RW source to the  burn menu, the burn dialog box had a greyed out OK button.

Finally used vista utility to drag files files DVD-RW to HDD.  Then went into creator classic, indicated the HDD files as the source and added the files to the burn menu.   OK button activated in dialong box, and burn went as normal.

Later figured out that if I had put in a blank DVD-R instead of a CD-R, probably would have burned OK in either disk copy or Creator Classic.

My only excuse for this silly error was that I was a bit punch-drunk after taking several days dealing with another issue (see posting about CD/DVD drive not recognising blanks media), and just when I thought I had solved that, EMC refused to burn disks.

You can't copy from a DVD to a CD.The program is looking for a DVD to copy to,no matter how much is actually on it.The media needs to be the same format.
