I would like some advise when creating some HD content onto standard DVD's for the best quality possible. Some information first:
HV20 Canon Camcorder
2.0 Dual core 2 Macbook with 3 Gigs of ram
iMovie HD 6
Toast 9.02 with Bluray/HD plugin
I obviously want to retain the best quality possible, so far I've inserted some AIC files decoded from iMovie HD into Toast 9. I've selected HD DVD as the source and DVD as the media and choice highest quality. When played back on my HD DVD player the quality isn't quite as good as the original source, I feel there is too much compression going on. What can I do to improve it under custom settings? BTW, I shot at 1080i 60i.
Also, I thought 20-30 minutes was the maximum allowed on a standard DVD? I'm getting around 40 minutes. Is that normal?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
BW

Hi BW
Sorry I'm not answering your question. just want to say I have the same problem. What blue ray player are you using to play the disc? do you have a BR burner? did you get the movie content from imovie?
Regards

I do not have a BR burner yet, so I am taking advantage of my internal DVD-RW burner and burning onto standard single layer DVDs instead. Toast 9.02 with the BR/HD DVD plugin is a great option for this application. Aside from wasting DVD's to test all the different custom options, I was hoping someone had a nice baseline to use.
I do have a PS3 and also a Toshiba A3 HD DVD player, but since my family also has a HD DVD player I want them to see my creation in HD.
And yes, the movie files were imported from my camera into iMovie HD, without alterations the AIC (Apple Intermediate Coded) file was then taken directly into Toast 9. I've read somewhere AIC files will never look as good as the original source? Maybe that's our problem?
Lets hope to get an answer soon.
