i am trying to convert unprotected wmv's to dvd and i am able to encode all of the wmv's but one.  no matter what i try it hangs at 4%.  i tried mydvd and disc copier.  i tried encoding it to any format and the same thing happens.  i have a handful of similar files and they all work fine in either program.  the wmv file that is giving my problems plays fine in wmp and in mydvd if i use the preview function it will play the entire movie.  any ideas? thanks.

Your file is either DRM protected, or it has been corrupted.

it is not protected.  if it is corrupted shouldnt it hang in the same place when playing in media player?  it plays right through with no hiccups or stutters.  just freezes up when trying to burn it.

WMP is a lot more forgiving of glitches in a file than the DVD conversion. If it keeps hanging at the same spot, there's a problem just at that point
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Put that wmv file into Video Wave and then output it (icon above preview window) to a mpg2 for DVD best quality.  If it encodes, use that in MyDVD.  If it hangs, watch the video preview and you'll see where it happens.  You should be able to do some editing to get around the bad spot.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

thanks for the replies. it was corupt or something along those lines.  i got a backed up copy of the original and it worked fine.  i didnt realize it could play and still be corrupt thats what threw me off.  when it was encoding the preview went black and just sat there and didnt do anything no matter how long it sat.  no error messages or anything.  but thanks again.
