Having read past problems with IE7 breaking ECDC6, I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with XP SP3 breaking ECDC6? Thanks.

I don't know that many are game to try it, especially as XP-SP3 does little more than tighten the noose of DRM restrictions around the user's neck.

If you try it yourself and can still get on the internet afterwards, please let us know what it does.

Doesn't SP3 come with IE 7 attached?

( I guess I need to look at SP3 a little closer to see what's in it.   Haven't downloaded it myself. )

Nope ml - no IE7 or WMP11 - a lot of older patches tho and some new ones

It's quite possible tho that SP3 has hit ECD6 in some way - remember ECD5 with SP2?

Hello Brendon - I'm new to the forum.  Have you heard of anyone yet confirming compatibility between XP SP3 and EDCD-6 platinum?
Thanks!  Brian

The original poster naver came back so I'd assume that it is still working

You can always roll back (SP3 does have an uninstall feature as far as I'm aware)

No, I haven't Brian. I think SP3 exists only to tie the user tighter with DRM protection, so nobody I know has felt the need to install it. I certainly haven't.

Hi, Thanks to all that replied to this question. I was going to update to SP3 but during that time my "computer tech" moved away, so I decided to wait and take Brendon's advice and stick with SP2 for now. I would have posted this A LOT SOONER but after I created this account, Roxio would not let me log in, not even after countless trys and password retrievals. Though I could not log in, they would still send me forum posts daily to my e-mail. It's a bizarre problem, and I don't know if I will be able to log in again after I log out today. fingers crossed.

The admins have been messing round with the board - it seems there are problems if you use IE6 (or so it's been reported)

Try Firefox - that works with no problems

Ahh, that's why. I'm still using IE6. Firefox sounds good but I don't want to experiment with anything until I find a new tech person. Don't want to mess with my already fragile system. lol

Thanks.

After the 2nd time I was unable to log on to the Forums using IE 6, I gave in and tried FireFox.  I've continued to log on using FireFox with no problems.  I gave up on IE 6.  (I stilluse IE 6 for most things; there've been times when only FireFox could get into hotmail for a day or two until they fixed it.)

The only other option you have is to use a different computer.

I suspect it may be cookie-related; it'll go away after a while - I never timed it but I assume 30 days.

Lynn

I have WinXP pro with SP3 and all updates installed.  I have not installed IE7 as I hate it and there were too many problems with it.  I also have installed the same version on other computers that are setup the same and use IE7.

I have not had any problems with the roxio ECDC 6/ECDC 6 Platinum software to date.  The computers that I built and use IE 7 do not have any problems either.  One thing that may have helped avoid problems is that I downloaded and installed all of the updates that are available on the ROXIO website.  The only problem that I do have is that Version 6 does not support some of the drives in the newer toshiba laptops.

Are there any work arounds or after market updates available for this?

No updates for ECD6 - it is after all 5 versions back from current

EMC 7 was the first to fully use dynamic drive recognision instead of a database
