I’m new to all this DVD creation stuff and my first attempt to lay a movie on to DVD has hit the buffers. I have 3 menu pages with links to chapter points in my main movie. They all work fine but the problem is I can’t stop the movie clips at the chapter points I want. I have 13 chapter points in the movie and on one menu page for instance, I want to play clips from chapter 6 to end at chapter 7 but what happens is the clip carries past chapter 7 right to the end of the movie. If I right click on the menu link I can set the chapter start number (Link-Movie-chapter 6) but how do I make the movie stop at the chapter I want it to.

Can anyone tell me what I’m missing here?

I don't believe that a movie will stop at the end of chapters. A normal commercial DVD also does not stop at the end of chapters but continues to play to the end. What you are seeing is standrd behaviour for DVDs.

I don't think DVDIT supports that feature.

Thats a fairly advanced authoring function.
You can do that in DVDSTUDIO PRO via markers and "Stories"
