Hi,

I have 2 DVD Players (different brands) and one of the things their remotes have in common are the "DVD Menu" and the "Top/Root Menu" buttons. When looking at set top DVD player remotes, I recall always seeing those same/similar two buttons.

When I play the DVDs I create with MyDVD, they play fine and the DVD always starts off with my main menu. However, on one player, pressing "Top Menu" (while viewing a movie, for example) brings me back to a sub-menu, not the main menu. On the other player, clicking on the "Root Menu" does nothing and it displays the "function/feature not allowed" icon).

I don't expect complete menu functionality, but I would think (hope?!) that pressing the "Title/Root Menu" button would at least display the MyDVD main menu. Heck, I'd be happy if either physical button did that, then at least I'd have some functionality similar to commercial DVDs! biggrin.gif

Anyway, is this inconsistency/unexpected behavior of set top DVD player menu buttons to be expected? I'm thinking yes, but I just want to know for sure.

What I've always done in my projects, though, is create navigational links (up, down, previous, next, home) on each menu page, so it really isn't a problem It's just that it would be nice like on a commercial DVD, while I'm playing the movie, if I press the "Top Menu" button, it displays main menu (or the chapter menu if I press the "DVD Menu" button).

I think this may be an issue with the players. My Samsung DVD/VHS deck has only one menu button. My mom's Sony has two buttons. The 'top menu' button should only take you back to a sub-menu or the last menu used. That depends on the brand. If there is no sub-menu, you would probably get that error.

My Samsung with only one button always takes the viewer to the Main Menu. I test my discs on both and so far they seem to work as expected.

I was trying to do something in my project when I accidentally right-clicked on the menu tree (in the Project View are) and I saw the option "Add Root Menu." I was, like, "Huh?! That's interesting!" smile.gif

By the way, even with Windows Media Player, it also has "Root Menu" and "Title Menu" options, but they also did nothing on the DVDs I created with MyDVD.

Anyway, so I decided to try add that Root menu, which is exactly the same as the main menu. Now I'm burning the DVD to see the results. I'm thinking (hoping?!) that it will cause MyDVD to create a root menu which the players (including Windows Media Player) will recognize. I'll let you know what happens.

Strangely, I couldn't find anything about a root menu in the help.

Yes, adding that Root menu did work. Even in Windows Media Player.
