new at this stuff so be gentle and not smarter than a 5th grader.
using windows xp on a e-machine, 2yr. old.
finally got a slide show made after many tries but it's really blurry pictures when i play the disc. sound if fine.
using cd-r 700mb discs and recording in the vcd mode ....to make a burn,
what am i doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong.  VCD, and SVCD, are very low quality, and for me, are not worth watching.

If you have a DVD burner, make a DVD slideshow.  If you don't have a DVD burner, get one.  You can get a decent one for less than $30.
