I had a copy of the basic version of EMC9 on my computer pre-installed. After using the Express Label creator to make a bunch of labels, I deleted this version to put on my full boxed EMC9. Now, the old STX files won't open, but any new ones I make will. I didn't burn most of my labels from the OEM version yet; how do I get them to open?

What versions are we talking about here? Brendon has kept tabs on which versions lack compatibility with each other.

I have not but few of the recent programs seem to like the old ones.

I believe STX files are unique to Express Labeler and that is a program you want to grow out of anyway and start using the Label Creator instead.

It MIGHT be possible to access the info in the files with something that can be used as an html editor, such as notepad. You won't get the formatting, or any special characters like umlauts or n-tilde, but you can get the basic info to copy into some other form. I had to do that once until someone sent me a copy of the ancient V.4 printwork program.

This won't bring up the labels at such, just the info as text.

Thankyou for all of your help! I don't know the exact version numbers, just than a limited version of EMC9 was on my computer when I got it. I, too, found that the Express Labeler was very constraining in its limited number of templates, so that is why I put on the boxed version. Unfortunately, it seems that the boxed version has only the same templates, no new ones. I use Lightscribe, so the only way I've been able to figure out how to laser label my discs is with Express Labeler. Does the more robust lLabel Creator have a way of making Lightscribe labels? When I checked this out, there seem to be only two templates, and it won't populate my tracks properly. It either just labels them as Track 1, etc., and even then, it usually doesn't even list all of my tracks. I just haven't been able to make it work. If I could, I'd definitely switch. Do you have any suggestions?

I think I follow what you are after???

The STX files are unique to Express Labeler. I made one in V9 and it opens in V11 so I would guess they are compatible…

However Label Creator is a different program and NO stx files are acceptable to it!

I see 27 styles available to both Express and Label Creator in V10 and 2009. However you can create your own or use just about anything you can find on the web.

Of course it can make LightScribe, look in Tips & Tricks

As to the tracks, start a new topic as it will only serve to add confusion to this one.

That is just it--my old STX files that I made in the Basic version of EMC9 (Express Labeler) won't open in the full version of EMC Express Labeler. I just don't understand it. Thankyou for trying it in the other version numbers. I'm glad that they can open there. However, I'm stuck with EMC9 for now, and they just won't open, even though all I've used is Express Labeler. Again, thankyou for trying this out!

So if I understand you right, you have created project files using EL which was part of OEM version of EMC 9 which you are unable to open with EL which is part of EMC 9 Suite (full version)? So what happens when you try to open? Are you encountering any error?

Makes no sense…

I have V9 Red Box version and the STX files from it open in both V10 as well as C2009 (V11). It is most unlikely that they would not open in V9 Express Labeler.

I hope someone with who have the full V9 will give it a try???

As firehancer asked, what happens?

When I try to open the previously designed project by going to: File->Open Project then choose a design that I made with the OEM version of EL9, it just gives an error box stating
"Error opening/saving file" .
That's it.
I can see the list of all of my old designs, they just won't open in the full, boxed version of EMC9 (EL). The new designs that I made since installing the full version open just fine. I don't get it.
