I have Vista Business with SP1. Installed Roxio Creator 2009 without any problems.
Just until yesterday I noticed that the subtitles in DVD movies does not work. I tried everything and it just doesn't. Clean uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work.
- I uninstalled the product, installed Easy Media Creator 10 and voila! everything works fine.
- Uninstalled the EMC10, installed Nero 8 and the Nero Showtime does work fine.
- Uninstalled again and installed Creator 2009... DOES NOT WORK (not from the DVD menu and selecting it, neither right-clicking and selecting them).
What can be wrong? How can I solve this?
Any help will be appreciated,
Roberto.

Check the Settings in Cineplayer. I vaguely remember seeing something about subtitle when I was browsing the settings.

Just tested. No issues here. I can select the subtitle via Disc Menu Navigation as well as Right Clicking --> Subtitle. As far as CP setting is concerned, you can try going to CP Settings --> Language---> Under "Preferred Subtitles Language" - Choose "Disc specified" and see if that helps. Also suggest testing a different DVD and see if the issue persists.

Wow... just tried both recommendations but got the same results... Nothing is displayed....
After deciding to reformat my machine (not specifically because of this problem), I tried the following:
- Installed Nero 8
- Installed PowerDVD
- Installed Creator 2009
- Installed Roxio Easy Media Creator 10
So I have all products installed and rebooted.
Try them 1 by 1 with different DVD's.... All products showed the subtitles fine with all 3 DVD's used... The only product that doesn't work is Creator 2009 with any DVD used.
==========
Another thing that I just noticed:
On all DVD's, the Title Menu usually uses some kind of animation when you move from option to option (between PLAY, FEATURES, SETTING, BONUS, etc) for example an underline, a star or something like that... This will allow you to know in which option you are at the moment to click... Well, on all other products this also shows fine, on Creator 2009 there is nothing, but if I click on an option it DOES work. Just the animation is missing....
==========

It's been 13 days... Nothing works. The suggestions mentioned in this thread didn't work either.
Reformatted two times and installed Creator 2009 one time before any windows vista sp1 updates (totally clean installation), the second one after windows vista sp1 was with all updates available but no other software... Same result.
Opened a ticket with Roxio, yesterday it was closed by them without getting any solution. The only thing they could tell me is that the Cineplayer version that comes with Creator 2009 uses the system codecs. In all previous version like Easy Media Creator 10, the Cineplayer used its own set of codecs, same as Nero Showtime and Cyberlink PowerDVD (all those 3 work totally fine in my computer). That it was probably the reason why the Cineplayer in 2009 is not working. But they haven't gave me a solution or tell me what codec to install or anything else.
Any suggestion on what else can I do now? What is happening here?
I will include here the original ticketw posted with Roxio Support just to see that maybe it gives someone another idea on what I need to do:
(SORRY FOR THIS LONG POSTING BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ELSE TO DO)

I have Vista Business SP1. Purchased 2 packages of Creator 2009. No problems at all with the installation. But the Cineplayer version that comes with the product, DOES NOT show the subtitles when playing DVD's.
I tried it with 4 different DVD's and none work. Tried the DVD's at another machines with Nero Showtime and it does show the subtitles correctly. Came back to my machine and installed Nero 8 and it does show the subtitles, also installed Cyberlink PowerDVD and it works fine, so it makes think that is something missing from the Roxio Cineplayer installation that is not allowing the software to handle the subtitles.
I did try removing the Roxio software completely according to the guide in your web site and reinstalled it again... Same result.
I uninstalled it again and installed Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 10, and the subtitles work fine. So it is something working wrong with this new version.
Also I noticed that in the DVD Title Menus (where it shows links like PLAY, FEATURES, BONUS, SCENE SELECTION) usually when you "move" or "navigate" to one of these links, some kind of animation appears that let you know where you are (a STAR, an UNDERLINED, a HIGHLIGHT). Well, this animation does not work either in my CINEPLAYER. But the link itself works (if I move or click it, it does goes to the DVD sub-menu), is just that the animation is not showing.
The CLOSED CAPTIONS are shown fine, the DVD Menu subtitles and the DVD Title Menu animations do not work!!!

I had 2 tickets (607923 and 610603), both were closed without any further help.
I called today and they just said: "Open a new ticket"..... WHAT ?????????
Thanks guys,
Roberto.

If you install EMC 2009 after installing EMC 10, it removes the cineplayer of EMC 10 and installs its own (v 5.0, orange splash screen). I don't know what happens if as you indicate, you installed the other way round.
In any case, on my system, (EMC 10.1 and EMC 2009, installed in that order; Also PowerDVD 8 de luxe, WMP 11)) I have no problems switching subtitles on or off in CinePlayer 5.0 or any of the other players.

Don't know if this helps, but I've found very similar problems when copying DVD's. The original disc's subtitles work fine, but after copying (using Roxio Video Copy & Convert" from Roxio 2009), I get NO subtitles. The choices are there on the menu, but nothing shows!

You copied a commercial DVD?
