I recently had a major crash on my laptop. Dell got me running again but we had to format the partitions. But before we did, I purchased Back on Track 3 to do a backup of my Documents and Settings. All of my files and folders are now on a DVD made by BOT backup.
My problem is that I cannot restore any of these files! The program hangs a lot, it constantly shows "not responding" message, continually shows a "trouble reading" error message, etc, etc. I tried online support and they are useless! If you can't describe the problem within 30 seconds your discussion with them is terminated!
Can anybody help me recover my files AND suggest an alternative to BOT that will restore the DVD that I have?
Right now all I have is my basic computer running XP Pro and prescious little else.
Joe
Well, a question or two first... did you try to read the disc after creating it, and before restoring it? If you look at the disc in Windows Explorer (not with BOT) what does it show you?
Some recovery programs that have been recommended for recovering files off optical (DVD or CD) media are:
ISO Buster and
CD Roller.
You've probably figured it out, but whenever you make a backup, it's worthwhile to take some time to try and verify that the backup is readable.
