Since the support website is down (produces an error each time on submission) and it sounds like this has been an issue in the past, I'm wondering if folks could assist me.....

In uninstalling Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 and updating it with Roxio Creator 2009 I have come across a issue with the consumer installshields update

manager.  When I occasionally start and this program tries to activate and check for updates (both Roxio and others that use it) I get a -3 error.

According to thier website this is produced by a bad pm.html file in the system.  This can be resolved by updating the client to thier latest version

6.10 (which I presently only have 4.10 installed on my vista client).

However, before updating this software application and affecting my systems stability and your applications ability to function, I first wanted to check

in and see if this is supported by Roxio.  As i can not seem to find any documentation around this issue otherwise.  If supported, please advise and I

will try thier resolution... If not supported, please advise as to how I can resolve.

The reason why I ask is your application is listed on the secondary tab of this applicaiton, and I have seen it call the program to check for updates in

the past.  Upgrading 2 full versions could affect the process in which your internal calls work and therefore would like your input before proceeding.

Additionally, if I have issues after udpating, I would like to be able to work with you in understanding the issues before and after.

You didn't need to uninstall EMC10 - 2009 will happily work alongside it

However, to uninstall 10 completely, check the following

For Vista: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000127CR

For XP: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000086CR

Don't forget that there is a hidden folder which will have Roxio/Sonic folders in it that also have to be removed:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

I have just ignored it and never use it anyway. I check for any updates manually from the support page.

We had a discussion about this awhile back "where it came from". On my machine it came from Roxio software. When I remove Roxio software, it's icon 'Installhield' in control panel is removed also.

Yeah and I guess with good reason, here is the actual response I got from Roxio mad.gif , asking about it at the same time I posted it here:

Thank you for contacting Roxio Technical Support

We cannot directly support the software but we can try to help you find an answer to any errors produced by it.

I personally do not use the installshield software at home.  I choose to turn it off due to problems with many software packages.  I prefer to get updates myself from the manufacturers website.

Regards,

How do you like that response?  blink.gif  Good for a chuckle hey?  Guess I will live with the error until I can find a real resolution that works, minus the updaet to flexnet connect 6.1!

Best Regards!

I just installed Creator 2009 and received the InstallShield Error -3 also.  Interesting the Roxio says they cannot support the software although they install it.  The InstallShield website says they don't support installations by other software vendors.  The posts that say to ignore errors are not putting the right issue to the front.  Roxio has to deal with anything they do to my computer. There are no free passes.  I want specific instructions from Roxio on how to eliminate the error that the installation of their software caused.  If the solution is that we cannot fix it and will refund my purchase price, that is fine with me.

Contact Roxio directly, by clicking on the Support tab, at the top of your screen.

This is a users forum, not Roxio Tech Support.

I know this is a users' group.  I wasn't asking for you to refund my money; I wasn't asking for a refund at all.  I was just drawing attention to the fact that, as users, we should not have to "ignore" any errors created by Roxio or any software vendor.  A fix is all we deserve.  And a fix for the InstallShield error -3 is what I am looking for.

It did not appear that you knew that this wasn't Roxio tech support, so I let you know.

Oh, and I agree that there should be a fix for that error.

Have you installed the 'Update Manager Critical Update' which was pushed out to users a month or so ago?

In that case you've probably done all you can through Roxio, and should now go through the Installshield site and complete the update from there - after all, it is their software, and not Roxio's.

Are you saying this is exactly what you see, running C2009?

updateerror3.png

If you look in control panel do you see this?

roxio_garbage1_1.jpg

If you double click on the program updates icon in control panel do you see something like the below?

Roxio_Garbage2.jpg

If you go here and download the C2009 SP3 update and follow the directions, what happens?

http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/c2009/software_updates.aspx

"Once the patch is downloaded, unzip it to your Desktop. Make sure Creator 2009 isn't running then and double click on the Creator2009SP3.exe file to install it and reboot your computer once completed."
