I would appreicate some help:

Just bought the "new" Roxio Video Capture USB ($50 bucks)....can capture video...but there is no audio and the video itself is "jerky" every few seconds.

Any thoughts?  I have a Dell E520 w/2 ghz of memory and running Windows Vista.

any help would be appreciated.

one more thing...I am using Roxio Media Creator 9..and I did get the "right" driver CD...

That machine is customizable so we don't really know what you have.  Please post the specs in your signature via My Controls at the top of the page.

My guess is that you have a video chip rather than a video card.  Make sure that you have the latest drivers or spend a little more $$ to get a stand alone video card.

Where do you see the jerkeyness? In capture or in previewing the captured video?  How does it look in WMP or CinePlayer?

What format did you capture the video to?  What are you capturing from? That has 6 USB ports,  Try one of the ports on the back of the computer rather than one in the front.  No hubs.  Nothing else running.

Did you have your anti-virus running during the capture or during any editing?  

We really need a lot more information before we can hazard a good guess and provide reasonable suggestions.

How can I find a listing of what I have as far as video chip/video card?  Under controll panel?  I don't see it there.

Go to Windows Start> Run> Type in dxdiag> click OK> Look at the display tab.  On the left will be the device and on the right the driver ID and date.

Please read my last post and answer those questions also (CPU ID, Anti-virus, etc.)

Update the drivers for your video card.  Yours are old.

Also, updated the drivers for your sound chip.

How can I see my video drivers?  Which one on this list is it?  I see the  Radeon X1300PRO?  Is that it?

I tried updating ATI Radeon X1300PRO ...it said I have the latest drivers.

Yes, that is your video card.  Your video card has drivers from 2006, according to what you posted.  Have you gone to the ATI (AMD) site?  The latest drivers are from the end of September 2008.  You can get them, here:

Problem still persists after doing the above....still no sound either...

Sound in Vista is a totally different problem.You probably have the inputs needed disabled or they are not available from your sound card.
Try this:
Go to the Control Panel,Sound and then the Recording tab.
Right click on any device you see.Now make sure that Show Disabled Devices is checked along with Show Hidden Devices.
Go back to the Recording tab and see if any new devices show up.If they do try and enable them.
Now try to capture and see if you get sound.
If not then you may never get the inputs you need to get sound from a USB device.
You can thank Microsoft for this one.

I see the USB device...and everything is enable...when I test the "playback" feature...I hear nothing though.  My computer sounds are working fine though.

ok....I bought Roxio 2009...now the sound works fine...but the video still shakes.   I notice when the video shakes...."very faintly" you can here the VHS tape going over a very very very very slight "rough spot" as it spins.....so I'm thinking either the VCR and/or the VHS tape might be the issue....

Both...as it captures...you can see the video shaking that is captured...and the resulting video is shaky also.

It's your video card/chip.  Turn off video acceleration, and see if it makes a difference.

Switched the VCR...now the only problem is the audio is "popping/cracking"....here is a sample of the vid here:

Sounds like you are overdriving the audio.  In Video Wave -timeline view, click on show hidden tracks, select native track.  You will see the native track appear just below the video track.  Double click on it and use the slider to make it slightly softer.

Also  you can clean the audio by clicking on that button while you are in the audio editor (or use the equalizer) to get rid of the clicks.

If they are really bothersome, you can extract the audio, put it in Sound Editor, use the cleaning tools there and then add the audio back into VideoWave with the native sound muted.
