A Medium Error is sent by the optical drive when it is having difficulty writing to the disc (or media). It could be you have a spool of discs that is defective. Also, if you are using a built-in Apple Superdrive (particularly if it is one of the slot-loading ones) it can be very picky about the discs that are used.

Try again with a Verbatim-brand DVD. Choose Save as Disc Image instead of clicking the burn button and then burn the disc image using the Image File setting in the Copy window. Also, choose a speed slower than Best (such as 8X). If you still get this error then it could be a problem with the optical drive.

If your DVD burner is external it also could be a problem with the USB or Firewire bus. Let me know what drive and Mac you are using.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thank you very much for your help,
I'm using Sony and TDK brand DVD, even I tried a slower speed than best (I think 4x the last time I used) still have a same error message, I will go get Verbatim brand this afternoon, hopefully it will work, my  mac g5 pro only 23 months old I dont think optical problem, let see, once again thanks for your help.

If the drive is a Matshita, it doesn't matter how old because they are ^#!& when they are brand new.

Perhaps the following procedure could be used to help sort out the problem:

See if you can save a disc image in Toast, mount the image, and then create a new writable DVD image using Disk Utility, copy the data from the Toast image to the Disk Utility image, and try burning the result using Disk Utility.
