I copied data and image files to cd's but did not finslize them thinking I was going to add more files. I no have access to the computer on which I burned the cd's. Is there any way to finalize them on a different machine? If necessary, I can have the individual who has my old machine try to close them for me.

Try this,I got it from elsewhere.
Go Here and download ImgBurn,it's free.
Then go to Tools>Drive>Close>Track/Session/Disc.Choose Disc.
This should allow you to close the disc.

I have CD's from 1997 that are not finalized.
XP & Vista only write CD/DVD's that are not finalized.
Is there some actual problem?

What if they're packet-written discs?
