In anticipation of the whole "all tv is going digital", I upgraded my Hauppauge Analog Video Capture card, that came with my HP Media Center PC, and replaced it with a Hauppauge HVR 1800 digital capture card. But when I go to the Media Capture - Video and select my card, I am still presented with a channel selector that is just for the analog version.

That is correct. I'm fairly sure Media import will only recognize the analog. However, you can use Media Center or the Hauppauge software to record the digital channels and then bring those files into Videowave or MyDVD. In either case, Videowave/MyDVD will ask to convert them before adding the files to a project.

After February of next year, this feature will be useless since all we'll be able to capture is static from the analog tuner. I'm in the same boat with the Hauppauge HVR 1800 and would like to directly capture ATSC digital TV signals with this card. Do you know if there's any plans to release a patch or update to the 2009 software to allow this to be done without having to capture in another program then import into a project? This seems like a major lack of oversight on the software developers' part, not anticipating the February 2009 switchover to all digital broadcasts. Looks like they dropped the ball on this one.

Over here analogue and digital are both running concurrently and will continue to do so for a few years yet so we do have a choice of which to use.

I did have an Avermedia Digital TV card (but that couldn't capture analogue and the stations in the south of the island, RTE 1, 2, 3 and Telefis na Gaeilge are still analogue only), so what I did was to put in a basic analogue card with the signal being fed via an external digital tuner with a bypass.

The gadget I got was a barebones Nikkai A52HF one, with space for a hard drive so now I have both analogue, digital and digital recording wink.gif

Perhaps, but I've always used 'what works'. Even though Roxio will now capture form my TV card,I don't use it because I like Windows MEdia Center for that much better. Media Center already works with digital tuners. There really aren't any apps that can do everything for everybody.

Most likely we will see digital TV tuner capturing in the next version.
