When I reboot my notebook, I now (since about a week ago) receive a warning that DirectCD has been disabled.

DirectCD
Roxio, Inc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Issue Description:

A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your system. This driver will be disabled. Please contact the driver manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version of Windows.

Contact Information:

Available Patch: http://www.roxio.com/en/jhtml/xpupdate.jhtml?location=update

When I go to the web site, there is NO such page. How do I get the driver update? Or do I need to remove entirely the MyDVD software on the grounds that it is now out-of-date? If that is the answer, I will almost certainly find an alternative supplier for my DVD software and start telling all my contacts (both professional and domestic) that Roxio is not the reliable software company I (mistakenly) thought it was.

What version of the Roxio software do you have? EMC 7 and 7.5 have Drag to Disc, not Direct CD.

Do you have an older version, of the software, on your computer?

The version I have is Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7 - this software came with my computer when I bought it in January 2007

What other Roxio or Sonic software do you have on your system? Direct CD is before EMC 7/7.5 and is also not part of the Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7 which may include DLA which is the Sonic equivalent of Direct CD.

Digital Media Plus shipped on HP notebooks from around mid-2005. Many of these applications now share a mixture of Sonic and Roxio drivers.

QUOTE
Marin County, California (June 28, 2005) — Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the leader in digital media software, today announced that Sonic MyDVD® for DVD creation and video editing, and Easy Archive™ for archiving and data backup, have been added to HP’s current Sonic bundle of RecordNow®, Drive Letter Access™ (DLA), and Express Labeler™ applications on new HP business and consumer notebook PCs. The suite of applications, known as DigitalMedia™ Plus, features a central task-based application hub and streamlined user interface

Full article here.

Please note that the software you were given with your laptop is an Original Equipment Manufacturer [OEM] version, 'configured' by the company who gave it to you, and they are responsible as the OEM for all your support for that software. As the article said:
QUOTE
Digital Media Plus is architected to give OEMs the flexibility to select multiple Sonic application modules and create custom software offerings for different markets and SKUs. For consumer notebooks, HP has configured a version of DigitalMedia Plus that includes music and data mastering on CD and DVD, video editing and DVD creation, archiving and data backup, and . . . . .

However I suspect you won't get much help from HP, but you may find that one of the patches offered in this pinned topic will help your problem. I hope so and wish you success.
