I have a rather unusual problem. I have Videowave 7 Professional, the standalone version with the 454 update. I'm using Windows XP, SP2.

Monday night I was working on a project and all was fine. Tuesday night I open Videowave and it is no longer showing most of my avi files. I can bring up my projects but the avi files no longer display, they have the red circle with bar through them. Only a few of the files show up, one is a mpeg and the other is an avi. What's weird is the other avi files that don't show were created the same way as the ones that work. .Mov files show up.

I didn't know if something in my codecs got corrupted. So I went through and removed all my codecs. Still no luck. I reinstalled them (after a reboot). Still no luck. I even did a Windows restore to the night before and no luck.

All the files that don't show in Videowave 7 will play if I go to windows explorer and look in the folder and play them.

I also have EMC 10 which includes Videowave. However I don't like the interface on that version and it's not as stable. I tried it and it shows my avi and other files.

I am not aware of any changes nor did I add or remove any software that I can recall between Monday night and Tuesday.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

MC

Just a suggestion, try adding another .avi file and see what happens, what I mean by another, add one of the ones that are no longer showing up. Since they showed up when you originally put them in I am just wondering if you put them in again if they would show.

What version of Internet Explorer are you running? If IE7 it will interfere with EMC 7( as will WMP 11) .

I'm using IE6. I'm not using EMC7. The videowave professional 7 is the standalone version.

The avi's are in a couple of folders. I could create another and put in there. Not sure if it would do much good. When I say I can't see them I don't mean just in the production I'm working on. When I go to select another to use they are ALL blocked out with the red bar except one or two.

UPDATE: I uninstalled Videowave Professional 7 and reinstalled it and put on the update. Still doesn't work. I also converted another dvd file to an avi and it doesn't show up either.

Thanks,

MC

Xvid avi's.

It's not the type of avi's because as I said earlier, it's been working for months. Then bang, the next day it no longer shows them. In fact I had worked on this project the night before and was able to see all my avi's and could choose any one I wanted from the media selector. The very next night I have red lines through them. I don't recall changing anything unless some windows update went on that I am not aware of.

It's really freaky. I've tried using the videowave in my EMC10 but it keeps locking up on me.

Could it be Windows Media Player 11? I've had it on here for a couple weeks. Not sure why it would suddenly make it stop working.

One thing I did notice. When working with these files in videowave 7, I would have a little FFDS icon in the tray by the clock. I no longer get that now that it won't show the files. I believe that was from FFD Show on my computer. I have taken it off and reinstalled it. Still no luck. This is the craziest thing I've ever seen. I know a while back I couldn't use Quicktime files after an upgrade so I took Quicktime off and reinstalled an older version and that fixed it. I can view Quicktime files in VW7.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

MC

WMP 11 breaks EMC 7/7.5. See the pinned post at the top of this forum.

Which is a sub-set of EMC 7. Both built on the same basic code set, so the IE7 and WMP 11 issue apply to both products.

As is the case with many, you may have to re-install the program. It sometimes is necessary, when rolling back to WMP 9.

OK, I have rolled back to Windows Media Player 9. I am still on IE6. I removed and reinstalled Videowave 7 Professional and applied the update to it. And I still can't view my .avi files within VW7. I just don't understand how I can go from everything working perfectly Monday night to it not working Tuesday night.

I tried to use videowave that's in EMC10 but it is unstable. It will pull up the .avi files but it tends to lock up. Even when it does work I just don't like the interface as good.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Thanks,

MC

You may have to try the 'clean install' procedure that is outlined for EMC as it's possible there are still traces left

Also, WMP11 should have two entries in add/remove programs (the main program plus some media stuff) - did you remove both?
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

I followed the instructions for removing the WMP11. Took both parts off and let it remove the other part that it asks about.

I will try taking EMC10 off as well and do the clean install.

Thanks,

After stripping out, install VW 7 first - then EMC 10
