Hi there,

I purchased popcorn 2 yesterday assuming from the blurb that it would allow me to create h.264 movie files for my psp. unfortunately i haven't been able to find the setting to do this so far? is this even possible or am i stuck with standard mp4 files?

thanks,

Adam.

Only MPEG-4 is supported for PSP.  The QuickTime H.264 encoder will not create a file that is PSP compatible.

Hello,

Everything that I've read online says that PSP WILL support H.264-encoded files in an .mp4 shell. Sony even states that "MP4 (AVC) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264) has been added as a playable file format" (http://www.us.playst...supportoverview), so why can't POPCORN2 generate an H.264-encoded file that plays on the PSP via its PSP SETTING when H.264 is an option in the MPEG encoder dropdown in the CUSTOM menu?

I'm confused and a little frustrated...

Thanks for your time...

the  PSP supports H.264 encoded files but quicktime can't create them in a way that allows to PSP to play them.

I also found this on the web...  not sure if it is part of the reason.  this may be a quicktime/psp issue....

Quote

The Sony PSP 2.0 (PlayStation Portable with firmware 2.0+ and some custom firmware) handheld console features hardware decoding of video files in a proprietary "Sony" version of the H.264 format. It will not play standard H.264 files. The PSP also restricts playback of non-UMD video larger than roughly 320x240, despite having a screen capable of higher resolution.

doesn't look like a popcorn problem.... hopefully apple or sony is working on things

According to this page: http://www.pspbrew.c..._Workflow_-_Mac

You can use Yade X and ffmpegX to encode a H.264 PSP movie. I've tried these but had no luck making the PSP movie. The MP4 files play fine on the computer, but something else is preventing them from playing on the PSP.

Others have had luck though, so it's worth a try.

I created H.264 encoded files using Popcorn2 and tried to play them on my PSP using firmware version 2.5 and 2.7 - no luck.  The PSP OS reports the file as an 'unrecognized file format'.  Leave it to Sony to make the PSP only able to play Sony's proprietary version of H.264!  If anyone has a workaround for Popcorn2, please post.
