so i did a one button backup.....but then took the drive out because puter was damaged....saved all info.....fdisked puter.....redid it myself.....now i just want to get individual folders like dads my music and whatnot out and back into the new my music folder.....i have to do it with each account, and i don't want to do a one button restore as i'm afraid it will reset windows and drivers and stuff.....all i want to add are pick and choose, but it appears that i have to do a one button restore since i saved it one button backup......its some .QIC extension or something, i'd have to look again to be exact....so is there a step by step procedure with pictures or something? how can i do this? i can guess at it but would rather ask all of you first as its a pain to setup as you know.....its running sweet so i don't want to change it now....thanx for help in advance  wacko.gif  huh.gif  blink.gif

.QIC is the extension for Back Up MyPC, which is a system-restore program.

There is confusion over the term "Backup", which is used both for a system restore, and for making a copy of personal files for archiving.

What you wanted was archiving, which would have been better done using a Sessions-based program such as Data Disc in Sonic's RecordNow, or the WinXP built-in burning.  If the disc is closed, it can be read on any computer.

What you made is a system restore.

Had you bought a new Hard Drive (and Hard Drives are cheap these days) instead of wiping your old Hard Drive, you could have put the BUMP image onto the new HD, and used the old one (if readable) as a slave, or as an External Hard Drive (either with an Enclosure, or an IDE/USB cable).

At this point, you can still get a new drive, and restore the .QIC to that, then re-set it to slave drive.

The current Back-Up MyPC allows you to restore files from a backup image you've made as long as you make it from within BUMP.
That being said since you got your version with a Hard Drive you bought it is an OEM version and there's no telling what HP has given you with the version you have.

First off, trying to link to a file on your hard drive won't work so we can't read the Help file.

All I can tell you is to open BUMP and see if it let's you restore files. If it does then try and browse to that image and see if it will let you look inside of it.If all it lets you do is the One-Button backup or restore then I doubt your version will allow what you're trying to do.

If it will let you then it should just be like using Windows Explorer.
