angry.gif Ack, what a frustrating program this is. I'd appreciate any help on getting it to work.

I've had my computer for about 6 weeks and have been using Roxio pretty successfully to burn AVIs to DVD up until tonight -- the only issue I've encountered is a lag time when lanching MyDvd which is a very minor annoyance. Today, it's a big FAIL.

I am trying to use MyDvd (also tried MyDVD Express) to burn 4 AVI files to DVD. 2 of the files will burn; for 2 of the files I get Add Movie Operation Failed 80004005.

All the files are Xvid and I downloaded the xvid codec tonight and rebooted and no luck.

My system specs:
Dell XPS
Intel Core ;2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)
4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs
ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 128MB
500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
Windows Vista; Home Premium w/ Digital Cable Support SP1
Dual Drives: 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable

I don't know how to check what codecs I have installed.

I'd also welcome suggestions for a freeware program that would give me a no frills way to burn DVDs -- the menus and stuff that Roxio has are cool and all, but all I really care is being able to burn DVDs reliably on an on-going basis, I can do without the bells and whistle.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You have been successfully burning DVDs for awhile and all of a sudden it won't? I would think the problem lies with you Xvids and not with the software.
Where do those Xvids come from? How long in time are the Xvids you are trying to burn? Have you tried to burn first to a an iso image file and then use Creator Classic or Video COpy & COnvert to burn the iso to the DVD?
Have you changed the make of the DVD media you are using? Have you done a defragmentation of your hard drive lately?

I have 4 AVIs -- all are 45-50 minutes long. 2 of them will burn to DVD, 2 of them won't. They are all from the same source, which is what's weird, in that 2 work and 2 don't. No change in DVD media and I've only had the computer for 6 weeks so I don't think defragging could be an issue.

I would love to try an alternate method of doing this -- I don't know about this method you suggested with the ISO image file. I'll give that a try -- I create an ISO image file and save that to my hard drive and then use Video Copy & COnvert to burn that to DVD?

Thanks for responding.

Yes, on the Video Copy and Convert. If you can't burn to an .iso file the files may be corrupted.

Also, if you have had your computer for more than one day, and you have done video work, defragging IS an issue.

Which 2 files don't add? Is it always the last two?
A standard 4.7GB DVD will only hold 60 minutes of video at best quality. Anymore and the video has to be compressed. Maybe you are running into problems because you are trying to squeeze 3 hours or more on a DVD.
Have you tried putting 2 files on each DVD. IF the same two files always give problems then I would consider that those files are corrupt.

After a bunch of fruitless things I tried (including defragging the hard drive). I decided to go back and try to re-burn some files I had previously burned, about 3 weeks ago and had done so with no problem. And now, I get the "80004005" when trying to burn those files. So it's:

- same AVI files that burned with no problems 3 weeks ago
- same type of disks
- system defragged
- now they don't even load into Roxio

And, in addition to this problem where I can't even load files to attempt to burn them, for the past few days, the files I can load and burn, the DVDs won't play in my player. I don't get an error message but they just don't play. And the DVDs I created 2-3 weeks ago still play fine.

So at point A in time, everything worked fine and now as point B in time, nothign works - files either don't load or they load but the discs are not playable. There's nothing I changed overtly (i.e. on purpose) on my system, I'm using the same type of discs.

I am going to re-install the program and see if that helps, if it doesn't are there any other suggestions? I'm not sure what codecs are but should I check mine? Again, everythign worked 3 weeks ago; nothing works today so I would assume that if it all worked at one point, I had to have had all the necessary files and drivers and all that.

I am actively looking for a freeware, barebones but reliable, program that would enable me to burn AVIs to DVD, to get me out of Roxio hell so any suggestions on that would be extremely appreciated as well. if Roxio wants to reimburse for all the coasters I've made int he past week that would be nice as well.
I Am A Sorry Moron.

I doubt very much that Roxio is responsible for the problems you are having. If it worked 3 weeks ago and it does not work now, then something has changed on your system that prevents REMC 10 from working properly.

You never did tell us where those videos came from. I think the problem is those videos from your previous posts.

If you don't have something helpful to say, why don't you move along? You're clearly not interested in helping, you're interested in being superior and condescending and judgemental, you bitter old man.

Good lord, get a life or something. How sad can your life be that you're SO overly invested in what I think of some dumb computer program? A program you have no vested interest in but yet react like I'm personally attcking you when I say somethig bad about it. You're very creepy.

I believe that Walt is trying to help you. Something has gone astray, with your computer, since the last time that you were successful burning.

Did you try burning to an .iso file, first? What media are you using? You may want to try other media.

And, you may want to answer Walt's question on the origin of the 2 files that aren't working.
