Cburg,

Your source file is an AVI, and it needs to be decoded before it can be played or converted to another type of video for burning to disc.
It seems that you don't have the required decoder.

You can check the AVI to see what decoder is needed, by getting the GSpot codec information appliance from here to examine it. GSpot will tell you what video codec is being used in the AVI, and then you can search the Internet for it and download and install it.

Please be aware that your Sonic My DVD5.3 LE is a 'Light Edition' of software, and may have the use of the most popular codecs blocked.
See this topic for a discussion of that.

Brendon

Dear Brendon,

Thank you for the information! I got the following information from GSpot:

On the audio portion, it says: Codec 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3

On the video portion, it says: Codec(s) are NOT Installed

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,
Mike

Hello Mike,

GSpot should also tell you what Video codec the AVI uses.

If you look at this one,
Attached Image: monthly_11_2008/post-208-1226197697.jpg

You'll see at the top right that the code for the video codec is DX50, and its name is DivX 6.0.0
What appears in that part of the display for your AVI ?? You need to get a video decoder which will handle the compression type your AVI uses. If you get no sound as well, you'll need to get an MP3 audio decoder too.

Regards,
Brendon

Hello Brendon,

It's an FMP4, and its name is FFmpeg/ffdshow ISO MPEG-4.

Thanks again!
Mike

Hi Mike,

No need to quote all of my message again, so I tidied it up for you laugh.gif

It looks as if this is the codec you need. These are always very fiddly to install and tweak, but here's a place where you should be able to download it. [click here]
