I have the Easy CD Creater application that came bundled with my Plextor drive - version 9.  When ripping a CD to make MP3 files of the tracks  in the Classic Creator mode I do not see MP3 as an option - WMV is there along with AC3 and some other formats but no MP3.  Yet the instructions say that MP3 is meant to be one of the options.

Is there an MP3 codec that I must install?  And would the MP3 optional installer for version 6 work with this if I was to install that option?

Any help will be appreciated.

OEM versions usually come with bits cut off - at a guess that's what has happened with yours (the mp3 part has been removed at the request of the equipment supplier)

I'm not sure if 6 and 9 will co-exist - you can try, but you can't take bits of 6 and get them to work with 9

However, you may want to try here for a free program that should do what you want

Something may be amiss here.
You said the choices were WMV and AC3.Those are for video work and not audio.

Hi  -- I DL the app that you mentioned . .will install it and see how it works.  I am especially interested in having the program grab the song titles and artist like Roxio does.

There must be a way to add the MP3 codec to the ECDC software like you did with version 6.  If anyone knows where to grab this I would appreciate knowing.

Thanks - Mike

As I said earlier - as it appears to be an OEM version of the suite, you're stuck. There never were updates or patches available for those from Roxio and, in fact, all support is supposed to come from the supplier (FreeCom, Maddog, Dell or whoever)

If you want an MP3 codec, download the LAME one.  However if you've downloaded and installed that Codec and still can't rip to MP3 format then you'll know that your OEM version has the MP3 format suppressed/disabled and the only reason it's still in the help files is because someone has been lazy and hasn't removed it. sad.gif

Hi  --I went to that LAME site and tried to find the download and ended up on a page that said Lame Aint an MP3 Encoder.

I see where I can download source code . .was I at the right place but maybe this is a plug in that won't rip to MP3 unless it is installed in a host . .like Roxio?

That's a good idea about going to the manufacturer - I got my version 9 withmy Plextor drives . .maybe Plextor can get me something else.

Thanks.

Hi  --I downloaded the LAME MP3 Encoder - that was a challenge as not all of the links work and not all include the files that needs to be extraced.  But when I finally got there and installed the file i went back into Classic Creater and tried making an MP3 from a CD butthe MP3 optin never appeared.  I have about 5 other types of files but No MP3.  Is there a way I am supposed to install the LAME encoder into Roxio for it to work there when ripping a CD?

Hi again..

When I downloaded the LAME zip file and unpacked it there was a file missing . .the one that you are supposed to 'install'.  I right clicked on all of the unpacked files and onlyu one game me the option to 'install' but it was not the same file mentioned inthe tutorial.

Since you got yours to work I wonder if you might be able to send me your zipped file - or point me to where to get it - so i can unzip it and get the .inf file that was supposed to be included.   Or is there any chance you can send me that file to install?

I have to believe that there is a way to make this work - especially consideringhow others have.

Thanks for your help - Mike in Maine

Actually if you skip the freecodecs site and go direcvtly top the sourceforge site, LAME in all its variants is listed there for download

Hi - -I have seen this site but am lost to know which one to download to work in Creater Classic.  Cna you please point me to the right one that will simply allow me the option of MP3 as an output file format inmy Roxio program?

Thank you.  I really feel this should be easy - I just don't understand why it is so hard.

They are fairly self-explanatory

Audiograbber (Windows) CD ripper/encoder.
EAC (Windows) Exact Audio Copy: High quality CD ripper.
Hard Disk Ogg a line-in recorder that can encode directly to MP3, among other formats.
RipTrax (Windows) Advanced CD Ripper with support for LAME and Vorbis.
WORM MP3 Encoder (Windows) MP3 encoder based on LAME with reported improvements.
ZLURP (Windows, Mac, Linux) Ripper and encoder. Includes LAME binaries.

ZLURP may be the one you need as it also includes the binaries for windoze
