I have a 3 GB disk image (.dmg), journaling disabled and optimized to have zero fragmented files, 1 disk fragment. But Toast 6.1.1 keeps asking me to use optimize-on-the-fly, which is not available using a volume over 2 GB, or to defragment using a commercial app. I have done that! But, it will not get past this point!

Any ideas?

Custom Hybrid is for CDs, dont use that format for DVDs. DVDs are by nature Hybrid discs.

Yes, if they are UDf disks. But I am doing custom hybrids, thus a Mac and a PC DVD-ROM. The reason is that I need to show/hide files based on OS and also want to have the customization available for volumes in OS X. It is just a bigger disk (a bigger CD that is actually a DVD)

So, how to solve this issue? Toast 6 supposedly can do this :)

Fingers crossed!

No, DVD-ROMs are UDF. Not custom Hybrids. Custom Hybrid is a CD only format.

You can do this as long as there is no shared data. Also, the new Mac&PC format in Toast 7 is much better for most things now than Custom Hybrid is. You can create a DVD with no problem in Mac&PC of Toast 7 and also have options to hide and share files.

Are you saying that a custom hybrid over 2 GB may not have any shared files? If so, what tech reason is there for that?

As for Toast 7, yes to all except for custom placement of icons in window to match window background (icons aligned to fit in a certain backgound design). OW, yes, Toast 7 looks like it does good job on hybrids.

Before Toast 6.1.1, one couldn't create Custom Hybrid on DVD. Custom Hybrid required Optimize-on-the-Fly to be on which in turn converted all mac volumes to HFS Standard. Because the mac volume was converted to HFS standard, the HFS limit for Toast kicked in and the mac volume size as only 770MB.

In Toast 6.1, the Optimize-on-the-fly options was no longer required (since cd readers are faster and access times are not as important). However, it seems that if the data is shared then the volume must be optimized.

I don't know if this is really need or not since it can be done in Mac&PC it seems. Currently, it seems that if the data is shared, then optimize on the fly is required resulting in the DVD not being usable.
