I want to convert my old vhs family videos to dvd, but I have a problem. I no longer have a VCR connected to my television, and I no longer have the old VHS camera/recorder. I do have an unconnected VCR, but it is too difficult to connect to my home theater system.
My question: is it possible to capture video using a VCR that is not connected to a television? I realize that I won't be able to see the video being captured, but I plan to copy complete tapes, then edit.
Thank you very much for your help.

I would think that's what this device is for.

A TV is not required at all for capturing video from a VCR. If the VCR has composite outputs and you have a capture device in your computer (such as the Roxio Video USB capture device shown by Syrallas link), it is quite easy to capture the video to your PC> This also assumes that you have the appropriate capture software such as is uncluded in Roxio Creator 2009.

Just so you know, when you use Media Import there is a Preview window where you can watch what you are capturing.
