For you information I am using XP Pro and I had some problem 1st installation.I unstalled and reinstalled but still i could not edit in videowave because there are no option to select scene. Over the past five years, in all versions of the Roxio software, I have looked for the "Take my video, and make it a DVD video, complete with text, scenes, etc., without me doing any work" button. I found out that it doesn't exist.

In VideoWave, click on View, then click on Media Selector, then browse to your movie, right click on it, select Scene Detection.

For more, RTFM. wink.gif

Also, you mentioned Creator 9. What version, of the software, do you have. EMC 9 is 2 versions back. The current version is Roxio Creator 2009. Which do you have?

Okay, then it is Roxio Creator 2009 (not CD Creator 9). You do not have Easy Media Creator 9, hence the confusion.

Please hold onto the bar – were moving!

In Media Import there is an option under Capture Settings for Smart Scan. When selected a Scan Tape button will appear. But, and this is what gpb was alluding to, everyone who has used it is disappointed in the end…

In the end you will be better off capturing the tape.

In Media Selector there is a Scene Detection both manual as well as Auto-detect.

Same problem with Auto there…

Of course there are one or 2 that find that it suits them.

Hi Guys:

I realize this is an old thread, but it's where I've found the closest thing to my problem, or more accurately, question. I want to do automatic scene detection on a dvd which came from a dvd camcorder. Normally, I copy the files to the hard disk and then just add them (in VideoWave). But I'm trying to break this one into scenes for easier editing, I've tried:

From the media selector screen, I highlight the first VOB file on the disk and right click but "scene detection" is grayed out. Am I missing something? It seems to work ok when I IMPORT directly off the DVD but it would be much faster to just add files that are already copied to the hard disk.

Thanks for your help/opinions/comments,

Bob

Scene detection is only available in the Media Selector. No the the same thing as 'Add Photo/Video' although they look similar. Under Tools on the left, click Show Media Selector. You can then drag the detected scenes to storyboard or timeline from Media Selector.

Nope. I did exactly that and a window opens called "Import Movies From VOB" where I can only select the whole movie, just like "add photo/video". Unless I'm still missing something, I think the documentation should be updated to say that scene detection doesn't work on VOB files. They must be imported using "Capture/Import", preferably via a "virtual disk drive" to speed things up. The imported mpg file DOES work with scene detection, and perfectly, I might add.

Thanks,

Bob

Just for kicks, change the extension on the VOB file to mpg; that is what it is anyway. Make sure that you have set Windows to show known extensions; the default is to hide them.

Now try to do the scene detection.

It worked, I can't believe it!!!!

It works not only in the Media Selector (which I don't really like) but also in the simpler add photo/video mode.

You must also change the part of the file name to the left of the "." or else the program still thinks it's a vob and won't add it even after successful scene detection.

I used "test.mpg" as an example.

Thanks a million!!!!
