I switched to Vista Business last week. When it came time to reinstall Backup MyPC 2006, it would not. I need to get to some backup files made by Backup MyPC 2006. Is there a Vista replacement program for it which will restore Backup MyPC files?

I don't believe so, Ray. You will need Backup MyPC 2006 to restore backups made by that program.

People ask me why the front of my forehead is so flat. I tell them it got this way when I bought into computers, started backing things up, beginning with tape drives, and each program left me with inoperable junk, and each time I took my frustrations out by banging my head against the wall!!!!!

The term "backup" is used to refer to two very different things:
- a disaster recovery image for use if the computer crashes
- a copy of one's personal .docs, .jpgs, etc, which can be used on other computers
BUMP 2006 has both - BUMP itself creates a disaster recovery image, for which you need BUMP to recover the data. It also has RecordNow DataDisc - presumably from the final release of RecoredNow from 2004.
If you had made a data disc on CD or DVD using Data Disc, or even WinXP's built-in CD burning ability, it would be readable on any computer. At this point, you need to get a computer that you can run BUMP 2006 on, move the recovered files to Hard Drive, and then burn to a data DVD or CD, or transfer to a Flash drive (aka Jump / Thumb / Pen / Keychain drive) assuming both computers have USB ports.

Lynn98109:
The problem I'm having is that my PC Backup 2006 program installs a label program and something else (I can't remember what it is at this time). However, it gives me an error message saying it cannot install the backup portion. I've tried it 3 times to no avail. I was hoping I could download the program from Roxio and try to install it, but I can't find that venue on the website. I guess I'll have to use my son's XP computer and see if what I have will install, or if the file is corrupted. If so, I'm out of luck.

Unfortunately, older programs are not compatible with Vista - and that includes this one with the date 2006 (my copy of the latest & greatest Version of RecordNow - V. 7.3 - says copyright 2004).
Next time, remember to make Data Discs - not a "full backup".

Lyn,
Please look at the problem Hawkeye posted, and then consider if the earlier cut-and-pasted lecture about what he should have done but didn't was an answer to his question or just rubbing his nose in his misfortune.
Please stop haranguing the customers with off-topic material, because like any other poster, your off-topic posts are liable to be deleted.

Brandan -
All your reply says is "sorry, you're stuck".
What the OP needs is to know what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how to first get out of the situation he is in, and then how to avoid it in the future.
Often it is necessary to explain WHY something is wrong, not just that it didn't work - which the OP is aware of already.
You seem much more interested in attacking me than in helpling anyone.
Just because you are so experienced, doesn't mean that everyone else is equally knowledgable.
