I should have known from past experience to leave well enough alone, especially when dealing with this Toast software, but I thought I'd get the new update with hopes of fixing some of the quirky bugs I've had. Anyway, I downloaded the update, went to install it and got a message saying, "the operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." I tried again, same result. I decided to not fool with it and forget the update. Later, I went to use Toast for a Tivo Transfer and the entire program, with the exception of the Tivo Transfer folder, is GONE!!! Toast 9 no longer exists on my computer! Nothing.

I have submitted the issue to Customer support but don't expect to hear from them (once again, based on past experience) so hopefully I can get my answer (and my program returned) here.

Thanks.

Some users have had problems copying the Toast folder from the 9.0.4 update to replace the existing Toast folder in their Applications folder. A couple workarounds is to rename the older Toast folder so it doesn't get replaced, or moving it to the trash before dragging the new folder.

When you update Toast the first time you open it again you'll go through the Toast Setup Assistant. There is a window in that assistant where you need to activate the Tivo transfer feature. If you skip that step then you can return to the Setup Assistant via a selection in the Toast Help menu.

Some of what you describe is not something I've experienced so I'm giving you a generic reesponse.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thanks Tsantee! I moved the existing Toast app to the trash, downloaded the update, performed the install, and everything seems to be working well.

Thanks for your time and interest.

I had this exact same problem this morning. Roxio's Knowledge Database was useless. Fortunately, I found this forum and this thread, which helped solve my problem. Thanks! smile.gif

I encountered the same "privileges" problem as Brockytop installing the update, but found I had sufficient privileges to dump the existing Toast 9 folder in the trash, after which the installation went just fine.

What I'd like to know is how long this update (let us hope it works) has been sitting at Roxio's website; I was supposed to get automatic notification of such things, but heard nothing. Just happened to check in today after an absence of a couple of months.

The update has been available for about a month. I don't know why the update notification didn't work for you (and probably others).

I am yet another who experienced this exact problem. I originally bought Toast 9 in a box, with a CD. But I trashed the entire installation and started from scratch. After I installed again from the CD the update immediately appeared. I downloaded the Zip file, double clicked for the DMG. Then, after I double clicked the DMG, as instructed, I dragged the icon (not the folder) for Toast to the trash. I went back to the disc image and opened it, I dragged the new Toast into the applications folder next to it. It was a bit tricky dealing with CD Key because it asked for the key provided via the Internet. But I entered my CD Key and voila, it worked. It may be important to note that when I opened Toast, a warning appeared on my Mac telling me that this is application was downloaded over the Internet. I clicked okay. Surprisingly, when I opened the related app, CD Spin Doctor, once again the warning appeared that this app was downloaded via the Internet. From my POV, I would have to say that this was the messiest installation of any piece of software I have ever encountered on a Mac. The worst. This simply should not be the case. Roxio . . . please do your due diligence and fix this ASAP.

When I Click Extras>>Tivo Transfer I get an alert that states Tivo Transfer can not be started because it can not be found. I tried deleting the folder and then re-installed the update - still no Tivo Transfer.

Is there another work around?

Thank you for replies.

All I can think to suggest is choosing the Toast setup assistant in the Toast Help menu and making certain you turned on the Tivo transfer in the window that gives you that option.

Thank you both, brockytop and tsantee, I followed your instructions and it worked for me too. I had asked Tsantee for help on another page but kept looking for answers while waiting and came across this posting. Thank you again!

I just ran into the problem with upgrading to 9.0.5. I got the error message "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." This isn't Toast problem, it's a problem with permissions on your Applicaitons folder. Here is a link to Apple's support forum that explains how to fix it. http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7334683
