Actually, in the thread that you hijacked earlier, you were given the solution, and that is to rollback IE 7 and WMP 11.

Hi...thanks...I rolled back I.E. to version 6 and rolled back WMP to the previous version. Same exact problem. EMC 8 works perfect except that the program itself won't initialize more than once without a reboot...very frustrating...this is a new copy of EMC 8...would downloading the updates fix this problem and which updates to download and where to find them...I'm assuming on the Roxio websight?...thanks again...DAVE

You will probably have to do the clean install procedure and re-install EMC to fix the problems caused by IE7.

Also, if you instaleld Media Player 11, that can do the same thing (both WMP11 and IE7 are Vista backports)
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Hi...I did the clean install after I rolled back I.E. 7 to 6 and WMP from 11 to 10...now as I'm trying to re-install the software...as the process is almost finished, it stops and a box pops up and says..."insert disk"...what the bleep???...I have started the entire install process over three times now with the exact same results...I am losing ground...I should of left well enough alone....if you can figure this one out you are a genius...help and thanks for your patience...DAVE

To reply to my own post...I read some other archived posts and found out how to get the program to finish re-installing after the clean install procedures...I was having a box pop up at the end asking to insert a disk...I just copied the entire contents over to my D drive and ran install.exe...re-installation problem solved....HOWEVER...with I.E. version 6 and WMP version (10 I guess as I rolled back version 11)...I'm STILL having the ORIGINAL problem of EMC 8 or any of it's saved work not initializing more than once without a re-boot.....at the risk of exhausting people's patience...is there anything else that can be done or that I have failed to do to make this program open properly more than one time in a row?...thanks in advance....DAVE

It sound like something is not shutting down correctly when you close EMC 8.

Go to EMC 8 Media Manager and turn off the watched files folder so that that is not running. Close EMC 8 and open Windows Task Manager. Under "Processes" what do you see running that could be Roxio/Sonic?

Hi thanks for the reply/advice....I did as you suggested, turning off the watched files...this did not help....I went to Task Manager and found two things listed after I did a re-boot...Roxio_Central.exe and RoxMediaDB.exe...is this normal?...do you have any other ideas as to what could be the culprit?...thanks in advance....DAVE

Not quite what I asked you to check. Once you have EMC 8 running, shut it down (do not reboot). Look at Windows Task Manager and look there and then.

Remember when you reboot, the offending application (if any) will be closed.

Go to Control Panel, click on Administrative Tools, click on Services, and scroll down to the list of Roxio services. Right click on each one of them, one at a time, and click on Stop, first. Then right click on them, click on Properties, and set them all to manual, in Startup Type. Click OK.

Once done with all of them, reboot your computer, and see if you still have the same problem.

Man....Mr. Bruce.... I wish I could report that that solved the problem....I'm willing to keep trying solutions if you or anyone else are willing to continue to dig deep and try to troubleshoot this issue of the program not opening more than once without a re-boot.....BTW....if I junked EMC 8 and went to 9 does it have this known issue also....and will version 9 open work saved from version 8???....just wondering....I'd rather keep 8 and fix this bug though if possible as I can navigate 8 in my sleep........thanks in advance....DAVE

Well, you actually didn't post whether or not you tried it, nor the results, if you did.

If not, I'd have to say that it is something in your computer configuration that is causing the problem.

Unfortunately, very few of the suites are backward compatable - dmsm files, especially.

Anything already created (avi, iso, mp3, etc) is fine - just projects and so on aren't)

Actually, nothing is a given, when it comes to communication.

EMC 9 may open your EMC 8 projects, but if you used transitions, etc., EMC 9 had changed some, so you may have to add new ones, from the EMC 9 program. That is, IF it actually opens the EMC 8 project.

I know it is a bit late to be asking this but...is the fact that I DID NOT install the Content CD along with the first CD have any bearing on my problem issue of EMC 8 only opening once without a reboot?...thanks....DAVE

Not really - just means that a lot of transitions and artwork won't be there
