I was getting occasional but fairly regular crashes during use of "Creator Classic" on an XP SP2 box, and then tried using some of the DVD creation features.  They all pretty much died.  So I upgraded the OS to SP3 and downloaded / installed the Easy Media Creation 10.1 updates (core plus content pack).

Now, I can bring up the main Creator Suite app, but if I launch any of the sub-apps that actually do anything, either from inside the main app or directly from their icons, they ALL crash.

All clues appreciated.  I don't want to reinstall everything AGAIN, but it looks like I may have to.

Do you have the full version of EMC 10 or one that came with your computer or other hardware?  Do you use a registry cleaner (don't).  Use the full (uninstall/)install directions and don't skip any steps.

Since the update says:" For existing Easy Media Creator 10 users only. This update/download does not offer any new features."
Why did you try to update?

Before installation: Did you defrag your hard drive, check for malware and viruses, disconnect from the INTERNET (after downloading the update), shut down (not just pause) your antivirus, shut down any other running program?

Check for incompatibility?

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Velocity Micro ProMagix ©HD 60; evga x58 motherboard, Intel i7 @2.93, 12G RAM, EVGA Nvidia 560TI superclocked video card, SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme audio card, Buffalo external blu-ray burner; Creator 2012. PhotoShow 6, VHS to DVD 3Plus.

Laptop - Windows 7 Home
Dell XPS 1645, Intel I7 1,6G with overdrive ,4G RAM, 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, Sound Blaster X-Fi MB Panzer, 500G hard drive.

Apple =OSX 10.5

Thanks, Sknis.  It is the full retail version.  I don't have a registry cleaner, but the version of McAfee on my machine does watch for / gateway any registry change attempts.  I always say YES to any changes from Roxio or other trusted apps.

I will go the full uninstall / reinstall route and see if that does the trick.  I had a similar problem with Media Creator 8 years ago, and had to not only remove the app but also the actual directory contents ... seems it left some "common" DLLs behind that would break subsequent reinstall attempts.  Per your input here, I will also disable McAfee during the install process.

Anyway, thanks again for the response (and so fast, too!   biggrin.gif )

Well, I uninstalled, disabled McAfee, and re-installed.  Still no workee.  So I uninstalled again, manually deleted the /program files/roxio and /program files/common/roxio directories, and removed all ROXIO-related registry entries, then re-installed.  Still not working.  I then re-installed the downloaded 10.1 upgrade.  Minor progress.  Now the individual sub-apps launch fine, but I get a crash whenevern I try to insert a file into an app (e.g. adding a video file in DVD Express).  Any other suggestions?

'Tis a mystery.
