After Installing Windows XP SP3 Whenever I put in a blank DVD+RW into the drive, when I open up Windows Explorer it changes the DVD+-RW to a CD-Rom and the Roxio software when I start it doesn't show any drives available for writing.

I've been in a complete run around with Dell including doing the following:

1. Updating the Firmware on the DVD+-RW
2. Deinstalling and Reinstalling the driver.
3. Removing two registry keys (upper and lower filters)

I can burn a CD just fine, its just when I put in a DVD+RW or a DVD+R that it mysteriously doesn't work.

Has anyone else seen this?  I'm almost sure it's got to be either a corrupt windows file somewhere, or a registry issue.

Additional information --- When I put in a blank DVD-RW it identifies as a CD as well.

Download, and install the PX engine, here, then reboot:

http://kb.roxio.com/content//kb/General%20...mation/000070GN

If that doesn't correct the problem, then go to Device Manager, and uninstall your Secondary IDE Channel, reboot, and see if that corrects the problem.

If neither of these correct the problem, then your burner DVD laser may be dead.

Follow the steps in the post above yours, and if it doesn't work, your Optiarc is toast.
