I have a MiniDV JVC camcorder that I have been using for several years.  I have recently purchased Roxio Creator 2009 to allow me to download my videos and edit them.  I am using a Firewire cable.

When I launch the Roxio Media Import application it does recoginize the device.  I can even contol the video on the camcorder using the VCR controls within the Roxio application.  My only problem is that when I try to Capture it, the Video section in Roxio is black.  I see it running on the display on the Camcorder, but cannot see it in Roxio.

Any help here is greatly appreciated.

Most likely an issue with your Video Card.

Check for updates to the drivers for that card and let us know what card you have.

Also DirectX.

Hmmmm....  I didn't think about that.  My card is NVIDIA GForce 8300 GS.  I double checked and the driver is up to date.

Did you download them from the NVidia site?

I downloaded the latest driver from the NVIDIA site and installed it and rebooted.  I am still having the same issue.

Hummm… I would guess the cable itself, but since you can control the camcorder through the software, doesn't seem like the cable is faulty???

It is possible the camcorder isn't working right – it happens.

2 other test alternatives:

Capture in Windows Movie Maker.
Capture with WinDV (free download - WinDV)
