I have been using EMC 9 since August 2007 to capture my video from JVC GR-D200 using firewire on my Windows XP.

However recently when I choose Capture Video->Video, there is no digital video device option displayed anymore.

- I have done the clean installation of creator 9 as recommended here http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000086CR.
- I have checked on device manager that the IEEE 1394 Host Controller is working fine.
- I have tried with Windows Movie Maker. It does not regconize my digital video as well.

However, Windows did detected my device occasionally if I leave my video in playback mode. However, whenever I chose the device option, it took long time to shows these message:

Failed to find IID_IAMStreamingConfig interface
Failed to detect which capture qualities are available for this device

Appreciate if anymore could respond to this.

If it isn't the PC then it is either the camcorder or the 1394 cable that has failed.

If you know someone with a PC maybe you could try it on theirs? Better if they have another cable???

I just remembered that not too long ago, Dell guy came and replaced my faulty motherboard. If that would be the case, what should I check?

If you installed XP-SP2, there is a patch that fixes the problem of video cameras, not beign found, when connected via firewire.

I don't have time to look for it right now.  I am watching the Vikings, who are about to be behind the Giants.

I just checked that my Windows XP had SP3 installed. I assume the problem of firewire in SP2 should be resolved in SP3.

I would think that SP3 has that patch built in.

Maybe your firewire cable went bad.  Do you have another that you can try?

If not, try capturing in Windows Movie Maker, and save the file as an .avi file.  You can use that file in the Roxio software.

You do realize that you have to have your camcorder in playback mode for any software to recognize it, do you not?

Just checking.  Let us know if a new firewire cable works.  Don't get an inexpensive one.
