Mdc Error With No Error Message Clicking "Burn" gives save disc image file and burn options on

I've been able to reboot my PC and/or uninstall and reinstall the entire EMC 10 Suite to correct the problem in the past. This time, nothing I've tried has worked. I've double checked all drivers for my burner; I've uninstalled and reinstalled using the Roxio DVD, and I've rebooted several times.
I have an eMachines T2865 PC with XP Home. My PC came with an NEC DVDRW burner.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Howard

It used to be that drive info was stored on a database, but noawadays it is dynamically reported by the drive itself
There are two possibilites here - either the drive itself is faulty (you can't assume it's fine by the fact that it reads as this uses a separate laser) or the media is faulty.

I usually only get that "no common burn speeds available" error when I have two burners ticked in the burn dialog and I have a burn speed set that one of them can't achieve.

Thank you for your response. I've considered that my burning might be nearing it's time since it was installed on the PC when I bought it 5 years ago. I think the media is OK since I've used the same discs (Sony CD-R Audio) for awhile now. I'll try another suggestion before changing media and another burner. Thanks again.

Thank you for your response. I have just one burner installed. However, it seems that there is an emulated Roxio drive, but I'm not sure if I somehow installed it or it happened otherwise. I am unsure of what you mean by "burners ticked in the burn dialog."

Thank you. I'll try that and see if it works. I'll respond again with the results.

I have installed the px engine you recommended. It seems to have caused another issue. I now see the checkbox for the drive, but the path is incorrect. My burner is my E driveve andMDC shows it on the C drive. Additionally, when the window opens after clicking burn, an error message pops up showing the path C: _NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A - 1.05 and states the device is reserved by another application. Any thoughts on this error?
Thanks,

Try this:
Go to the Control Panel,Sytem and when the box pops up go to the Hardware tab and then Device Manager.
Go down to DVD/CD Drives and right click your drive.Hit uninstall and reboot your computer.
When Windows restarts it should find the drive again.
Now check Roxio and see what happens.

I uninstalled the drive and then rebooted. I then opened MDC and set up a burn project. When I clicked burn it showed that the burner had been moved from E drive to J drive. I was able to burn 1 CD successfully. Immediately following the disc ejection I inserted another CD and attempted a second burn project. The result was the error message stating that the device is reserved by another application. I could probably uninstall the device again and reboot, though I would rather have another option other than uninstalling and reinstalling between every disc I attempt to burn. Any help would be appreciated.

Go to Start,My Computer.Right click on your drive.Go to properties.Go to the Recording tab.
Is the box that says "Enable cd recording on this drive" checked? If so uncheck it and reboot and try again.

I've rebooted several times. Each time I can get 1 successful burn, The second attempt errors. Could I have registry errors that may require a complete system restore?
Howard

Is the box that says "Enable cd recording on this drive" checked? If so uncheck it and reboot and try again.
I've unchecked the box and rebooted 3 different times. I keep getting 1 successful burn in between errors. Do you have other thoughts? Could I need a firmware update for my burner? I did notice a couple updates on the Roxi website. Could that be the issue?
Your help is much appreciated.

I'm not sure what lead me to a possible firmware update. It may have been that I was reading another post somewhere and thought that a firmware update may be helpful if the problem is actually my player or compatibility of my player with programs.

Thanks,

Hi Terry,
This may be just coincidence, but this problem started occurring immediately after using iTunes to burn a CD. Are you awarte of any issues between iTunes and EMC?

If it started after installing another app - check that app for the problem

Then again I don't burn discs using iTunes.
I'm not at my machine with iTunes on it right now but if it starts with Windows bootup you might try stopping it,rebooting and then try your burn(s).
