Hi. I have Roxio Creator 8 and was able to burn DVD copies until a few days ago, when I got an error message that says,

"There was an error writing the image to your hard drive. Please make sure you have 3.9 GB free on any one of your hard drives, then try the copy again."

But I have plenty of room on my hard drives. What gives? The only thing I can think of is that I have been using DVD Shrink as well recently, and I wonder if it's interfering with EMC8? All I know is that suddenly, I can't copy home-made DVD-Rs (which I do by copying to the hd and then back to a blank in the same DVD drive).

I'm using Win XP, SP2, just fyi.

I have the distinct feeling I've had this problem before, but I can't remember how I resolved it.

Please help? unsure.gif

If you go into My Computer and right click properties on your Hard Drives, do they show enough free space?

First of all, check in properties how much disk space you have.

If it shows more than 3.9 GB, then go to the utility part and run chkdsk on reboot. You may have lost clusters which are taking up space

Also, empty any temp files that you may have in C:\Windows\Temp

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, my C: drive has 332 GB free, and my D: drive has 23.5 GB free. I've even tried to delete the files of disks I copied using DVD Shrink, thinking they may be taking up too much space, but alas, that did not help. Help? :-)

Okee-doke, I just deleted all the stuff in the Recycle Bin (it was measured in KB, btw:), now I shall reboot, and be back in a few minutes. Thanks! I appreciate the folks who are hanging out and watching the boards. Hoping for a quick resolution! Back in a flash!

I've tried this, but I can't find the path. I know I set it at one time, but can't recall where!

Let me ask, would reinstalling help? Or how about this: I'm probably going to reformat and reinstall, I assume THAT should do it, no? (Tho I'd like to copy stuff BEFORE I undertake the reformat. . . .)

Thanks again,

Did you try running chkdsk on reboot?

It's worth a try: right click on the drive, go to properties, tools and 'check volume for errors'

It will tell you that it can't do it now, so just reboot and let it run
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

If what you want to copy BEFORE a reformat will fit on a CD, use WinXP's built-in burning ability. (It won't do DVDs). Also, you can copy to a Flash drive (they come as big as 8GB, and the ones with only, say, 2GB, are pretty cheap now), or an External Hard Drive.

I have the same issue but with Roxio Creator Plus - Dell Edtion. I've scoured Afterdawn, CD-R Freaks and Doom9 for info on this and not a single person has an answer. It's not for me but for another user I'm providing support for. I've never run into this problem before and reinstalling Roxio didn't do a thing.

It can't be a space issue because there is plenty of hard drive space available. Before I tried to copy a DVD, I was able to copy a CD. So it seems that the issue is with duplicating a DVD. It has no problem copying the files to the 'temp' folder. However the problem occurs when it's time to write the files to the DVD blank.

Did you resolve this problem? I would like to know how.

If you have the 'same' problem - did you follow any of the suggestions listed above?
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed
