[1] This is a software suite of many programs. Which program in the suite brings up that error, please?
[2] How long did it work for ?
[3] What has changed on your system since the last time it worked?

I only use roxio creator
it worked for months
Nothing has changed
And I am not the only one with this error message
A guy from work running xp just had this happen this weekend
the program will install, but does not open up past the first window
then the error message comes up
All your drives are set to disable. On this operating system, in order to start Roxio cd & dvd burning you must physically remove you drive(s)or enable at least one.

As you might know, Windows uses class and device filters for many of its hardware devices including display adapters, controllers, keyboard, modem etc. These filters are referenced through registry entries, and if you break the filter entries you break the devices.
I found that if the filter chain for your DVD/CD-ROM drives breaks because of something killing a filter file, you get the following symptoms
[1] the drive(s) can disappear from Windows
[2] in Windows Device Manager the drives grow yellow triangles with "!" in them
[3] when you run Easy CD you get this unpleasant message

Is this what has happened to you?
If so, try this to clear the fault and rebuild the filter entries in your Windows Registry
[1] Run Device Manager and uninstall each of your CD/DVD drives
[2] Restart windows to make it find and reinstall the drives in Device Manager
[3] Uninstall Easy CD & DVD Burning through the Control Panel "Programs" or 'Add/Remove programs' menu item
[4] Restart Windows
[5] Reinstall Easy CD and DVD Burning from your CD
This rebuilt the filter chain and fixed my system. Please let me know how it goes for you.

Brendon

I reversed the problem I generated myself, by using the process I outlined above. It was the simplest way, but then I had created a simple break for it to fix.
There is a proper way that Microsoft suggest to fix filter problems, and I see there are other messages in the forums where people have successfully used the full Microsoft fix. I was hoping the "lite" method would work for you, but since it hasn't perhaps you should consider the official Microsoft fix for this problem.
Basically they get you to use Regedit to navigate to a registry key for DVD/CD-ROM, and there delete a value called upperfilters if it exists, and also the value lowerfilters. Then you restart Windows to make Windows rebuild the filters, and then reinstall your burning program.
It sounds a bit daunting, but if you print out the Microsoft page HERE and then follow it carefully it should be quite easy. I think you should do it.

(1) If your system can't read the CD to install it, then something went wrong when you were following the Microsoft instructions.
(2) If you can read the CD without error but the software won't install, then the Microsoft operation probably went okay but you might need to do a "clean install" if fragments of the Roxio program are preventing its reinstall. HERE are the clean install instructions for version 9 in Vista.
(3) I have no information about your card reader, but following those Microsoft instructions shouldn't have disturbed it. If it's one of the sort that shows as a USB device, you didn't hit the USB filter key with Regedit instead of the DVD/CD one, did you?

and that was as far as it would go.
I had already did all that including removing all Sonic and Roxio from regedit.
A few reboots brought back the card reader, I should have remembered that it is sensitive on Vista.
This is a custom built Computer, but the card reader we put in is not always happy with Vista.
but anyway this far too much work to just burn a Cd or DVD
I gave my PLEXTOR a simple Cd/DVD burning software that does not have any extras and I burned 2 Cd`s
Like I said I Quit with Roxio
But thanks anyway for your help

Sorry we couldn't get it to work properly, but neither you nor I are miracle workers.
I trust the rest of your 2009 goes better.

Exact same thing is happening on a Dell M1730 with Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition, with a Matshita BD-RE 220 blue ray DVD burner. There are no filters in the registry. Has anyone come up with a solution?
