Hello,

I'm VERY new to Spin Doctor, and when I made a recording from cassette tape to my Mac, the recording started about 7 seconds too late, so I have a LOT of "dead" time at the beginning. How do I get rid of it?

Just exclude that part when you create your tracks. See Spin Doctor Help if you need tips on creating tracks.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!
