Not a big deal, but when I insert a text overlay for a video the only way I could tell to change the duration was to drag an edge of the icon in the text window. I was hoping for something like clicking on properties and just setting a duration. Or better yet, is there a way to change the default duration? Basically I'd like to keep the text up for about 5 seconds every time I use it.

I haven't tried everyone out there, but none of the editors I have seen work that way with overlays…
If you have a range of specific frames you want it in, put a split before and after. Then use your Timeline Slider to zoom that portion of the Timeline to a level that you can see well.
With a little practice, you hit be able to hit the precise frame this way.

Kind of odd though. All the other overlay tracks have durations. Never noticed that before.

Setting a custom style doesn't seem to retain the duration either. On a couple longer productions that were all going to use the same style, I set up the first one how I wanted it and then copied it and pasted the rest, changing just the text in each.
