Installation Problems

i installed emc9 on my pc/windows xp,pro..it would'nt recognize my drives sometimes..so i tried to upgrade to 9.1 on the roxio site. result disaster,it did'nt install and said reinstall product.
it would'nt install.so i went to ad remove programs and removed the potions that did install and tried to reinstall my emc9 from the disc.now i get to publishing product information and it stops and says insert disc.i tried some solutions similar to this problem to no avail....fustration has me crazy!...any help would be a godsend thanks....

Do you have a retail version of the software?  If not, the 9.1 update won't install.
