As EMC 7.x will not run with IE 7, some comments here. After you delete IE 7, WIN defaults to IE 6. At this point, you MUST change the Microsoft automatic update so it does not automatically install updates. If you do not make this change, Microsoft will add IE 7 to your system. (MS alerted me to an update for IE 7 within 30 minutes after I had uninstalled IE 7!) Also, when you receive or open Microsoft updates, open the Custom(ize) window. In that box, deselect the IE 7 update and it will not download. If you do not do this, IE 7 will be installed.
As for Windows Media Player, what is the newest version of WMP that will not conflict with EMC 7.x? Does anyone know?

To change the auto-update to IE7, go here, download the app and run it in a command prompt:

For media player, I believe that WMP10 is fine (I still have WMP9 myself) but I would run Sonic Cineplayer by default (it has a 'capture' for freeze frame that is missing in WMP)

If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

WMP 10 may not affect it, but I would stick with the non-DRM WMP 9.
As I have seen, in the past 2 or 3 years, anything newer, Microsoft, is most definitely not better.
Life is good!
